In an effort to ensure justice for the victim, Yogi Government has ordered a CBI probe in the Unnao case late night yesterday. The investigation is into the incident involving the 19-year-old Unnao rape survivor and her family members and lawyers. On Sunday, the group met with an accident on their way to meet the survivor’s uncle in Rai Bareilly jail (who had been arrested in another incident), which left 2 of her aunts dead and grievously injured her lawyer and her.
The victim was allegedly raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar from Bangarmau in Unnao in the year 2017. He was arrested by the CBI last year. Now, in the accident, a truck rammed into the vehicle in which the girl was traveling and fingers are being pointed towards Sengar. The accident took place when the survivor was on her way to Raebareli from Unnao. In this regard, a formal request has been sent to the Centre by the UP government to look into the case.
Earlier yesterday, Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is currently jailed for the charges of gang rape, was booked for criminal conspiracy and murder in connection with the accident. The FIR against Sengar was lodged at the Gurbakshganj police station in Rae Bareli after the survivor’s uncle complained. His wife was one of the victims in the accident who succumbed to her injuries. The FIR mentions 10 persons including Sengar, his brother Manoj Singh Sengar and his aides.
The uncle claims that the driver of the truck which hit the car in which his family was traveling, was associated with the MLA. The collision was orchestrated with an “intent to kill.” He also stated that he and his family had faced repeated threats from the MLA and his men and were being intimidated to change their statements in court or reach a compromise with the MLA in the gang-rape case. Moreover, in the complaint, the uncle stated that they have been threatened that if they didn’t agree to a compromise, they would be killed one way or the other.
During the investigation of the accident, it was discovered that the number plate of the truck was blackened, making the numbers unreadable by the witnesses. Moreover, according to the police investigation, the truck is owned by the Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Nandu Pal’s elder brother Devendra Pal.
The mother of the Unnao rape victim has alleged that they had been receiving threats from the perpetrators. In this case, to ensure that the survivor gets justice and the perpetrators are punished accordingly, the government has ordered a CBI probe.
