If one has to pick the shining star of the Indian political scenario, it is Smriti Irani. To say that she has been one of the hardest working leaders in the BJP cadre would be an understatement. From being the star campaigner for the party to ousting Rahul Gandhi from his generations-old family bastion, Smriti Irani has done it all. Her excellent sense of judgment and her passion for what she believes in never fails to amaze the citizens. In her latest stunt which has left her well-wishers awestruck, Smriti Irani is seen carrying the bier of one of her party workers, Surendra Singh, in Amethi.
Surendra Singh was a former head of Baraulia village and had campaigned extensively for Irani during the Lok Sabha elections. He was shot by unidentified assailants at 11:30 PM on Saturday night and later succumbed to his injurious. Political enmity is being speculated to be a possible cause for his murder. Smriti Irani, when came to know about this immediately flew from Delhi to console his family and also participated in the final rites. Both, Smriti Irani and BJP leader and state minister Mohsin Raza participated in the funeral rites and were seen carrying Surendra’s body amid chanting of slogans. While this gesture shows the care Smriti Irani has for her party workers, she is also portraying how an independent and strong woman should be, being an excellent role model for the young girls. Carrying the bier after the death of a loved one isn’t a job that women traditionally indulge in. By doing this, Smriti Irani is breaking the chains of patriarchy, empowering women and demonstrating that nothing should stop a woman from doing something she believes is right.
Highly disturbed by the death of her party worker, Smriti Irani has taken an oath in front of Surendra Singh’s family to find the culprit and seek justice.

This caring attitude of Smriti Irani is in stark contrast to how the people in Amethi are used to being treated. For decades, the Gandhi family had used the constituency for electoral benefits and neglected it as soon as the election period was over, leaving the people to fend for themselves. This is the reason why the 2 traditional Congress bastions of Raebareli and Amethi are so under-developed. Since Smriti Irani’s arrival, this is changing. During the 2014 elections, the day the election results were announced and it was declared that Rahul Gandhi had retained the bastion, Smriti Irani had visited Amethi the very next day, and was frequent in her visits over the next 5 years, an effort which has now reaped benefits. Rahul Gandhi on the other hand, simply announced “Take care of Amethi” and has ignored the constituency since then, not that he was overly concerned before. Sonia Gandhi, even though she has retained her bastion, could not find it in her schedule to visit Raebareli after the announcement of the results and has simply sent them a letter. On the other hand, PM Modi immediately visited his bastion, Varanasi, after the result to thank them, as a thoughtful gesture.
Smriti Irani, by this act, has proved to the people of Amethi and her party workers that unlike the predecessors, she isn’t one to use the Amethi citizens once every 5 years during the Lok Sabha elections and is here to actually work. By empowering the people and women in particular, Smriti Irani has emerged to be one of the most respected and admired leaders in the Indian political scenario today.
