Speeches and statements on social media made by politicians around the world have had their content for humour. From typing mistakes like Trump’s “covfefe” to David Cameron and his twitter gaffes, all have equally been trolled by the social media. However, none of this really challenged their thinking abilities on the grounds of intellect, knowledge and sanity. Yet, a statement made by the Pakistani minister, Fawad Chaudhary might compel people to question the politician’s general awareness and intellectual capability. Fawad Chaudhary, who is the Science and Technology Minister of Pakistan, has recently claimed that the famous Hubble telescope was sent to space by Pakistan’s space agency Suparco and not NASA.
Hubble Space Telescope was launched into low Earth orbit in 1990 and remains in operation. It is named after astronomer Edwin Hubble and is one of NASA’s great observatories. Hubble’s launch marked the most significant advance in astronomy since Galileo’s telescope.
This factually wrong statement made by Fawad Chaudhary was trolled all over the social media. While speaking to the Geo News, the Pakistani made this bizarre statement. He said, “The world’s biggest telescope was sent by Suparco [Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission]. One of the ways to see is the Hubble Telescope, which is the world’s biggest telescope and was sent [into space] by Suparco, which is installed in a satellite.” This hilarious claim made by Pakistan’s Science and Technology Minister explains why Pakistan is way behind the rest of the developing countries in the space technology development.
The utter factual ignorance can be termed as pure stupidity. Trolling Fawad Chaudhary, one of the twitter users said, “You have really surpassed all your predecessors. Just a few days under your patronage we realized that SUPARCO has sent ‘hubal’ telescope into space.. Incredible. Mr. PM @ImranKhanPTI should send such discoverer into space as a reward..! #Pakistan @MaryamNSharif,” While others have also mentioned that NASA chief should finally resign and join the Fawad Chaudhary ministry and become Suparco’s head instead.
Fawad Chaudhary, who is a lawyer by profession and has also worked as a political analyst, clearly possesses no knowledge about what is going on around the world. His statements have forced the social media to ridicule his intelligence quotient. This further displays the intelligence levels of people in the power circles of Pakistan.
The statement clearly makes him unfit of the portfolio he has been handed over. It also raises a question on the type of leadership that Imran Khan is delivering to the nation through the cabinet of the federal government. A federal minister holding portfolio of science and technology is making an extremely incorrect and wrong claim and bringing shame to the country. It therefore puts the future of space and technology and other scientific and aeronautical developments in Pakistan under doubt.
