Recently, in an observation made during hearing one of the cases, the presiding bench of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana not only reprimanded the two state governments for the increase in the ‘gang culture’ but also asked them to emulate the example of how law and order was restored in the state of UP.
During the hearing of an appeal against the verdict of a local court, the High Court bench, comprising Justice Rajeev Sharma and Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu, reprimanded the two state governments for not doing enough to curb the crime rate in their states. The bench further recommended them to emulate the example of UP in terms of improving law and order and directed Punjab and Haryana into drafting tough laws on the same lines.
It may be mentioned that, ever since Yogi Adityanath assumed the post of UP’s CM, there has been a drastic change in terms of the law and order of the state. As of now, there have been more than 3000 encounters that have been executed in the state since April 2017. In these encounters, 838 criminals were injured, and approximately 12000 criminals were compelled to cancel their bails and surrender in the court.
According to UP STF, 9 criminals have been officially exterminated and more than 135 people have been arrested. It is only because of the free hand given to the police forces that UP, which once was a regular in terms of being featured in the 5 states with the worst crime rates, is now improving by leaps and bounds.
This is not all. This applause by High Court of Punjab and Haryana is also a tight slap to those, who in the name of social justice have consistently tried their best to shield the criminals from any kind of punitive action. The way opposition parties like SP, BSP and Congress wailed for the criminals forced the Supreme Court and the National Human Rights Commission to take note of the incidents. However, undeterred by the hounding of the left-liberal intelligentsia, the UP police continues to crack down hard on criminals, and it is heartening to see that other states are recognizing the hard work as well.
