The Nepal Government has cancelled meetings with the Pakistani Government due to the escalated tensions between India and Pakistan. The government has not only cancelled one but two meetings that were supposed to take place in Islamabad. There was one that was to be held between the speakers.
According to the reports the decision by Nepal might not be made under the pressure of India, but it clearly shows that India holds an important place in the good books of Nepal, unlike Pakistan. The meeting was scheduled ahead of Foreign Ministers visit to Nepal on 28th March.
The step taken up by Nepal is highly significant as chairing the SARRC for the current term it acknowledges the friendly and diplomatic ties it holds with India. This was also a great response to the Pakistan and its government about the regional support received by India.
The SAARC submit which was to be held in 2016 in Pakistan was cancelled after the Uri Attack that killed 19 Indian soldiers. In this regard the Nepal Foreign Ministry said “While expressing satisfaction made in many areas of cooperation in the past one year, both sides agreed to expedite progress on early resolution of pending issues”
The fact that Pakistan is globally being pressurized and also isolated is not hidden. The recent OIC summit was boycotted by Pakistan because of India being invited to the summit. This however did not have any effect on the summit or the member of OIC as they did invite India. The external affair minister Sushma Swaraj attended the summit and it was a diplomatic success. The OIC did not consider the request of Pakistan of including Kashmir in the final Dhabi Declaration and the joint statement, respecting India’s sovereignty.
Also at the United Nations countries like France, United States of America and United Kingdom have supported India on its stand against terrorism. This has put Pakistan in a lot of pressure to move against terror breeding on its ground. Pakistan thus stands amid scrutiny and criticism from main players around the world, while India is gaining support from international institutions.
Pakistan has been given a clear indication by Nepal on its stand against the terror that is creating tension in the region. The diplomatic success of India at the UN and also OIC has helped take its agenda on global platforms.
The credit is definitely to be taken up the Prime Minister and his policies that are proving effective. The efforts put in the meticulously planned foreign policies have borne fruits for the Modi Government. The global picture of India has changed after the efforts made by the Modi Government. India is heard more loudly and clearly at the international platforms.
