In a bold step, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has withdrawn security cover from 919 undeserving persons including 22 separatist leaders. This move has therefore freed about 2,768 policemen and 389 vehicles.

A home ministry official said, “The Jammu and Kashmir government has withdrawn security cover of 919 undeserving persons since the state has come under Governor’s Rule on June 20, 2018, thereby freeing 2,768 police personnel and 389 vehicles.” The official also mentioned the use of police force for the undeserving is depleting resource of state. “It was observed by the home ministry that many undeserving persons managed to get security cover resulting in a lack of state police resources for the public at large.”
The union home ministry has followed strict stance in order to stop the inappropriate usage of the scarce police resources in the state. This decision to withdraw security has taken place after regular meetings and every case has been examined on merit. Another official at the ministry said, “Following these strict directions, the Jammu and Kashmir State Security Review Coordination Committee (SRCC) held regular meetings to examine all the cases to ensure strict compliance of norms.”
This step of the ministry can be highly appreciated as it is also a move against the terror financers and supporters and it will crack down the network of ill elements in the state. The decision also helps increase the resources for the government to enhance the security of the people rather than those who do not deserve the security in the first place.
The ministry has thought about the decision very well before its application to the state. Jammu and Kashmir region already has a scarce police force working in the state. Therefore, half of the force cannot be deployed in the protection of undeserving people. A lack of police force affects the law and order in the state.
The union ministry has instructed the SRCC to continue the monitoring. This monitoring is on the basis of the merit of the person to receive any security. The resources are expensive and thus the government is trying to put them back into more police work than security. The step has been directed by the union government through the Governor of the State, Satya Pal Malik.
This decision is a direct message to all the anti-national elements working in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that no impetus and support will be provided to them at any cost.
