According to media reports, the Catholic Church in various parts of the nation has made up mind to spread the anti-BJP agenda prior to the Lok Sabha elections. Yesterday, Roman Catholic Diocese of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu seems to have decided to use its hold on the Christian community to roll out the message to ‘Not Vote for BJP’.
Speaking at a function organized by Catholic Church, Rev. Fr. Arul Sagayaraj, Trichy Diocese, stated, “We all have to fight against one enemy that is BJP. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari all the parties should come together against BJP. Individual parties like Mayawatis and others fought with each other and enemy came to power. We should join hands. You might have several differences; we should keep it away and come together to beat BJP”.
In recent times, in what can be said as clear defiance to their public role, multiple Christian organisations, pastors and bishops have come forward to appeal their flock not to vote in the favour of the saffron party. In another instance, in 2017, Archbishop Anil Couto and Archbishop Thomas Macwan voiced their anti-BJP agenda under the guise of Freedom of Expression. Interestingly, the Archbishops peddled their agenda just before the UP and Gujarat assembly elections.
Time and again, Christian organisations have attacked the Indian academy and knowledge. The missionaries, through their libelous reports, reviews and stories, succeeded in creating a distorted image about the people and culture of India.
Earlier, the Missionaries first targeted Hinduism and called it a false religion with false Gods. For example, people like Rev. Claudius Buchanan called Lord Jagannath Juggernaut, an evil deity and Hinduism a “bloody, violent, superstitious and backward religious system”. He called the “Juggernaut tradition” an endless meaningless bloodshed in which children were sacrificed in the “valley of idolatrous bloodshed to false gods“. His book “Christian Researches in Asia” is the living testimony of how the Christian Missionaries operated in British Raj.
Not only that, the unsettling story of the systematic way of humiliating Hindu students in Christian Schools and making them feel disgraced by targeting their religious customs and traditions too comes out now and then. The education by the Christian Missionaries is solely aimed at destroying the self-respect and self-confidence of the natives. The main aim has been to fill hatred in hearts for the native culture so that mass conversions can be carried out.
On the issue of mass conversions, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also raised his concern. He claimed that mass conversions are detrimental to peace and national security. Earlier, addressing at a function organized by ‘Rashtriya Isai Mahasangh’, Rajnath Singh made the remark, “If you’re Hindu be Hindu, Muslim be Muslim, Christian be Christian. Why do you want to convert the whole world?” Such a bold stance of the government will surely go a long way in curbing the nefarious motives of the shady organizations which try to lure people into religious conversion.
After coming to power in 2014, the Modi government has taken strict actions against nefarious acts conducted in the name of religion. Not only that, but BJP government also passed a law to keep a check on the shady foreign funding of NGOs and these so-called welfare organisations. It seems that the anti-BJP agenda peddled by archbishops and pastors are nothing but an act of revenge. These hate mongering on the part of ‘church’ against any political party is clear defiance to its public role.
