In a shocking development, Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi seems to a have made an attempt to threaten the government officials heading important departments. According to ANI, Singhvi said that they should remember that time and election results, both change. An election result is going to be announced on December 11 and another poll result is scheduled for next year. Therefore, Abhishek Singhvi referred to the results of the assembly elections in 5 states as well as to the Lok Sabha poll results next year. He suggested or rather warned that the officials who hold important departments should remind their political masters that there should be restraint and discipline because time is never the same. This is a blatant threat with a motive to force the government officials to exercise restraint. Even if we were to assume, in the wildest of dreams, that Congress could come back to power under the leadership of someone like Rahul Gandhi, it is utterly shameful for a political party to make such threats.

Interestingly, Singhvi’s comments came after ED carried out raids at multiple places linked to Robert Vadra. This had already drawn a massive protest from the grand old party which accused the government of political vendetta. Shaken by the raids, Congress spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala said, “Sure shot defeat in 5 States unnerves Modi Govt. to again use the old tools – unleash revenge & vendetta against Mr. Robert Vadra to divert the narrative. Such cowardice & intimidation will not subjugate either the Congress Party or the will of people.
Satyamev Jayate!”

First the Congress seemed disenchanted by the ED raids and now it has gone a step further to threaten the officials. It seems that the Congress is still not able to fathom the fact that it was rejected by the electorate in 2014 and that it has no right to decide how the government officials should perform their functions and discharge their duties.
However, Congress stooping to such levels does not come as much of a surprise. The fact that Congress spokespersons and leaders have on several instances, violated basic decorum and used abusive language on air, issued intimidation and open threats to journalists go on to show the level to which the Congress has fallen after not being able to digest a string of electoral defeats and due to its inherent obsession for power. It is ironic that the media helped Congress in its political survival for around 60 years since independence and now that some independent sections of the media are not showing the same level of biasedness towards the Congress, the party leaders and spokespersons constantly hurl abuses at them and at times have even threatened journalists with dire consequences ‘when they return to power.’
The Congress which already has extended dastardly threats at journalists now went a step further and dragged even government officials into its cheap political tactics. The problem with the Congress is that it believes India to be its fiefdom. The grand old party seems to be in the illusion that it has an inherent and inalienable right to rule India. Therefore, every time someone speaks or acts against it, Congress threatens such individuals with dire consequences. The way Abhishek Singhvi has threatened government officials also exposes this self-obsessed mentality of the Congress. This Congress’ mentality of openly threatening anyone going against it is the biggest threat to Indian democracy.
