N. R. Narayana Murthy is among the people who have revolutionised the Indian IT industry in a very short span of time. He is idolised by millions of people in the country for what he has achieved in life. His opinions on variety of topics are considered as he has exceptional analytical skills. Therefore, it makes him very influential in the political circles of the country. His support to PM Modi can be seen as a huge plus for the current government.
In an interview with ET Now, he supports another term for PM Modi, Murthy says,”We must be grateful that there is at least a national leader of Modi’s calibre who is interested in improving India. Looking at last 5 years, I feel that having a leader who is focussed on nation, focussed on discipline, cleanliness, economic progress is a good thing. Continuity of govt would be a good thing.”
The appreciation from Narayana Murthy could rally thousands of well-educated people behind Modi government as the influence he holds is enormous among the middle-class Indians.
He also praised Modi government for reducing corruption and said that he can’t comment on Rafale unless there is data. “PM Modi & his cabinet have worked very hard in reducing corruption at central level. I rarely hear a complaint of corruption at the Central Govt level. On Rafale deal, I don’t know what the truth is unless there is data,” said Narayana Murthy.
His comments on Rafale deal must be a lesson for some activists who think of becoming defense experts overnight and accuse Modi government of corruption in the deal. One should not throw castles in the air without having substantial fact, data and evidence. Activists like Prashant Bhushan, Arun shourie, Yashwant Sinha and most importantly Congress president Rahul Gandhi must learn this lesson from one of the most successful entrepreneurs of the country.
Murthy also praised Modi government for implementing long overdue economic reforms like GST and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). “I broadly feel that PM has led a strong economic progress minded government. We cannot hold PM responsible for execution, it’s the bureaucracy that has to do it. It’s not Mr Modi’s responsibility to go to every village and keep it clean. I don’t think it is proper on anybody’s part to hold Mr Modi responsible for execution,” said Murthy.
Earlier, industry veteran Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of Aditya Birla Group has also praised IBC and called it an effective reform, “I think we’re seeing improved levels of governance in corporate India and the government. We’re truly integrating with the world economy. I think there’s a definite deep cut that’s happened and IBC is a deep reform…” said Birla.
The corporate leaders at home and around the world have praised Modi government for economic and social reforms. The industry veterans like Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra, and Uday Kotak have showered praises for the Modi government. Many international business leaders like Former Cisco CEO, John Chambers even warned that it will be disastrous for India if PM Modi does not get the second term.
In the last four and a half years, PM Modi has taken many path-breaking steps to modernise the economy of the country. The steps include demonetization, GST and IBC. The steps taken on welfare front like building toilets, Ujjawala Yojna etc. have also been praised by the corporate leaders and the people across the political spectrum.
