In a surprise observation, there has been little to no opposition against the festival of Karwa Chauth this year. Notorious for being allegedly ‘misogynistic, patriarchal in nature’ [only for keyboard feminists though], the festival, where women keep fast for the long life of their husbands, has surprisingly been spared this time.
For the first time in a long while, rabid keyboard feminists didn’t flood the social media with their anti Karwa Chauth trash. Even though there were some legendary exceptions like the Quint, who shamelessly published another video on this topic, the anti Karwa Chauth trend has seen a remarkable fall from the past few years.
For the past couple of years, we were subjected to endless memes and digs at festivals like Karwa Chauth, Raksha Bandhan etc., which were denounced as regressive and patriarchal. This was the time when the left liberals would be the most vicious in their approach towards a festival, as if Karwa Chauth was not a festival but a diktat that ‘made the lives of women a living hell.’ Following are some brilliant specimens of their so called enlightened vision.
We don’t need to be experts to know how the likes of Barkha Dutt and Shobhaa De felt whenever this festival came around. Their aim was more at portraying Hinduism and their customs as anti women and regressive rather than any genuine criticism about the customs of this festival.
An attempt to insult Karwa Chauth in 2016 backfired for Barkha Dutt rather brutally as actress Raveena Tandon took her challenge head on, indulging in a Twitter war with the controversial journalist over her insulting comments on the festival.
Interestingly, even most of the film stars, if not all, were equally complicit in this vicious trend, sharing their own whimsical thoughts on the festival. However, ever since their malicious agenda on Kathua was exposed, the anti Hindu agenda has found very few takers now. We don’t need to scratch our grey matter to know what happened to ‘Mulk’, a film that was made with just one thing in mind: Bash Hindus for anything you can imagine.
If we’re anything to go by recent examples, we can observe that pseudo feminism is on decline in India. Forget Karwa Chauth, there was no significant trend against Raksha Bandhan this year. In the protests against Sabarimala verdict, a surprising number of women stood resolute against the marauding forces of the Kerala government, refusing to let them destroy the sanctity of the sanctum sanctorum. If Sabarimala was really an issue for women empowerment, why would these women come forward to rescue a supposedly anti women custom?
Interestingly, even Bollywood chucked the anti Karwa Chauth trend, as star couples observed their fast for each other. Be it Anushka Sharma’s fast for Virat Kohli, or starlet Yuvika Chaudhary’s fast for her husband and controversial TV actor Prince Narula.

Even actor Ayushmann Khurrana joined the festivities, taking the fast himself when his wife was unable to. Need we say more about the change in the attitude?
