Prime minister Modi’s leadership had a massive role to play as far as the rise of BJP during and post the 2014 polls is concerned. However, Rahul Gandhi’s role in ensuring a dramatic fall for the Congress and the accompanying rise in BJP’s popularity cannot be ignored. The fact remains that the fall of the Congress is to be attributed in a large part towards the vision less leadership as well as absurd and illogical speeches given by the Congress president Rahul Gandhi ever since the Congress has been trying to project him as the future prime minister.
Rahul Gandhi’s speeches have not only been weird, absurd and illogical but have now also become repetitive, predictable and senseless. Of late, Rahul Gandhi has been using a single pitch in all his speeches which is a naive attempt to attract the voters by promising some lucrative product to manufactured in the name of that place. He has literally been doing this for the last four years or so showing lack of creativity, innovation and leadership on his part. Way back on May 6, 2014 he had probably for the first time started this trend. He was addressing a rally in Mirzapur where he told the crowd that he wanted a day to come when the “American president is asked – Bhaiya, what is the time? The US president looks at his watch which has `Made in Mirzapur` wirtten on it.” Then, he tried reiterating it further and stated that he not only wanted such wrist watches but also wanted cameras, shoes and T-shirts etc which had a ‘Made in Mirzapur’, ‘Made in Gonda’, ‘Made in Saharanpur’, ‘Made in Lucknow’ and ‘Made in Varanasi’ tags on them. But this was not able to strike a chord with either the audience or the general electorate. However, it seems that Rahul Gandhi has not realized this and has continued this weird analogy wherever he goes.
Last year, when addressing a rally in Jaunpur, he aimed his words at former first lady of the US, Michelle Obama, the Congress president stated, “Jab Obama ji ki patni America mein apni rasoi mein kuch pakaye, patilon ko dekh kar kahein sundar patila hai, aur patile pe likha ho ‘Made in Jaunpur’. (When Obama’s wife would be preparing food in the kitchen, she would admire the utensils. And as she would admire them, the utensils would be engraved with the words: ‘Made in Jaunpur’).” For obvious reasons, Rahul Gandhi once again became a subject of derision.
In June this year, Rahul Gandhi again displayed his cluelessness. This time around he used ‘Made in Mandsaur’ as his poll pitch in the run up to Madhya Pradesh polls. Like every other time, this poll pitch is also bound to fall flat.
Rahul Gandhi’s ‘made in’ speeches have become so monotonous and predictable that it scarcely came as a surprise when he drew the same analogy again. While he was addressing a rally in Chitrakoot Rahul Gandhi claimed that, ”Within five years, people would see phones Made in Chitrakoot and Madhya Pradesh.” This once again shows his lack of vision. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took the Congress president to cleaners in his tweet and exposed how “Rahulji talks of mobiles Made in Madhya Pradesh, Made in Chitrakoot and BHEL’s mobile but in reality not even a charger has been made with Made in Amethi written on it.” Thus, the Madhya Pradesh chief minister has exposed how Rahul Gandhi has been making fake ‘Made in’ claims everywhere he goes but in reality the Congress has literally nothing to offer.
