Dear Congressis,
Political bickering and slugfests are common affairs in Indian politics and have increased manifold since the 2014 General Elections. The advent of 24/7 TRP hungry news channels, unethical journalists who are not neutral by any stretch of imagination, hyperventilating anchors with not less than 20 panelists screaming the guts out of each other in noisy debates, social media as a tool to communicate with people have only added to this slugfest. When spokespersons, social media warriors and followers of one side lecture the other side on the virtues of having civil debates and maintaining decorum and decency while talking about opponents, it just doesn’t sound convincing or something that is said with conviction. The harsh fact is that, over the years, we do not see people from the other side as merely political or ideological opponents. We see them more as enemies.
Going by the current state of affairs, it comes not as surprising when your party president makes baseless and wild allegations every hour or when the PM is called ‘chor’ or when your IT Cell head Divya Spandana comes up with what you think are innovative memes like the PM writing the word ‘chor’ on his own portrait. You think you are winning the perception battle by portraying the BJP as a corrupt party and a ‘suit boot ki Sarkar’ as your president calls it. Gone are the days when the left leaning media was the only source of truth for the citizens and you did not find it difficult to fool us.
So, when you try to manufacture a scam by shouting SCAM, SCAM, SCAM at the top of your voice along with a bunch of lies each time, it just doesn’t stick, especially when your own track record in matters of graft has been rather disastrous. Please remember that it was your party that presided over innumerable scams of humongous propositions like the 2G scam, Commonwealth Games scam, Coalgate (when this ministry was handled by Mr Clean, who found it more important to be in the good books of Rajmata than to prevent others from getting dirty), National Herald (for which the UPA chairperson and your party president are the top 2 accused and are out on bail), AgustaWestland, Bofors and many more. The very fact that you are a bunch of power-hungry politicians with a cluttered ideology, who can go to any extent to come back to power and continue to loot the nation, is very evident.
You falsely accuse the PM of dishonoring the blood of our soldiers. For all your love for the army and jawans, what prevented you from closing the Rafale deal during the ten long years of your misrule? The need for the fighter jets rose during the Vajpayee era. Let me make it clear that I am no defence expert and am just an ordinary citizen, but if your party president with his very limited knowledge can talk about defence deals by clumsily throwing up different numbers at different points in time, anyone can.
Rafale is a government to government deal and Reliance, along with 72 other companies were chosen by Dassault Aviation as part of the offset contract. So when you say that the PM himself negotiated the Rafale deal and stole it from HAL, who are you trying to fool? I will not go further into this as the intent of this open letter is not to get into the details of the Rafale deal but to convey to you that no matter how hard you try (by making baseless allegations, numerous temple runs of your president and proclaiming himself as a janeudhari Shiv Bhakt, memes and fancy twitter hashtags like ChowkidarChorHai or ChorPMChupHai) , you will not be able to convince a majority of us that your party is a better option than BJP. Yours is a party that is corrupt, divisive and anti-majority to the core and has been accountable not to the nation but to the first family.
Like the ‘maut ka saudagar’ jibe thrown by your then party president on the then Gujarat CM, your recent antics are also going to backfire big time. In Parliament, your President lied that the French President conveyed to him that there is no secrecy clause. This was cleared by the French government immediately. This was followed by your party man Punia lying that the Finance minister had a 25 minute long discussion with Dr Mallya. This was again proven to be false. When former French President Francois Hollande made a statement that the French government did not have a choice but to go with Reliance Defence on the Rafale deal, you latched on to it and went around telling the public that the ex French President called our PM liar. To your bad luck, this claim was refuted by Dassault, the current French government and our government.
Hollande himself took a U turn, but despite that you continue with your baseless attacks. This was followed by your president lying about the SPG and this claim too was refuted immediately. The very fact that your President was welcomed with protests in his own Lok Sabha constituency proves that the people are not amused and rather miffed with his behavior. Do not get fooled by thinking that you are winning the perception battle.
Lastly, shame on you guys to put forth your loyalty to the first family at the cost of the nation. A lot of you like Shashi Tharoor, Rajeev Gowda, Milind Deora are intellectuals in the real sense, but of what use is your intellect when you have dedicated your life in serving the interests of the royal family by accepting a clown as your boss and have thrown your conscience to the dustbins?
