The Kerala floods have been a devastating event in the history of the state, the natural disaster of this magnitude is enough to shake the foundations of any society. The floods have taken a heavy toll on many towns, killing a number of residents while leaving others stranded and some missing. The relief work which has followed the devastating floods have demonstrated the empathy Indians feel for their compatriots irrespective of the region or state they belong to, as it is clearly evident from donations and aid coming from ordinary citizens of various states. Ordinary citizens have started the nationwide relief effort by collecting food, clothes, money and medicines wherein each person is contributing to his or her capacity. Indian Army and Navy have been working tirelessly around the clock to rescue and provide relief to the people. Politicians right from Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan to PM Modi have shown urgency in initiating relief work and helping the people in whatever capacity they can. But on the other hand, the Western Liberal Intelligentsia has made the Kerala crisis a platform to launch an attack against the incumbent Modi government at the centre.
The liberal intelligentsia and the media latched on to the Kerala floods in order to peddle their venomous agenda and to exploit the sufferings of victims of Kerala flood to the best of their interest. The ostentatious reason was Centre’s decision to reject a non-existent aid offer of Rs 700 crore from the UAE. UAE Ambassador Ahmed Albanna denied the existence of any such offer.

Then they came up with a North-South divide agenda. The media and regional chauvinists were sowing the seeds of discord among Indians. The cabal, supported by the media, has been alleging that the centre and the BJP-ruled states are not providing sufficient aid to Kerala in a time of acute crisis. The cabal called North Indians a tax burden on South Indians. They also claimed that South is being treated unfairly by a ruling party which is mostly voted and supported by ‘north-Indian’ people. However, actions on the ground prove otherwise. The centre allocated more than Rs. 600 crore towards Kerala as assistance and NDRF has evacuated 15,000 people in the state. Indian Army rescued thousands of people. Army, Navy and Air force worked in tandem to help the people of Kerala. Even Kerala’s CM Pinarayi Vijayan has lauded the relief work initiated by the central government led by PM Modi and has appreciated his positive responses till date. But still the anti-Modi media tried to mislead people to believe that Centre is ignoring the South India including flood-ravaged Kerala.

The media and the cabal propounded a conspiracy theory leveling baseless allegations against PM Modi in particular and the BJP in general that since Kerala is not BJP supporting state and it holds little electoral relevance for the BJP that’s why PM Modi led Central government is not providing adequate help to the Keralites, which is again a vague accusation and holds no water. What Centre did for is already mentioned above and Kerala CM also lauded the efforts and help provided by Modi government. PM Modi, according to Vijayan, was aware of the the reports citing the destruction in the state and responded positively to all the efforts needed by the state government. He also cited that he had been having multiple telephonic conversations with the PM regarding the crisis. In an interview, CM Vijayan said, “Due to the intervention of the Prime Minister, the cabinet secretary has been interacting with our team as well as other departments at the Centre on a daily basis. I do express my sincere gratitude to the Prime Minister.” The BJP already has significant presence in Kerala and its acceptance is only increasing among the people of Kerala.
