India has registered jump of four places in the Global Peace Index. At present India ranks 137th whereas earlier it used to be 141. According to a report, government efforts to tackle violent crime have paid off with an improved score, and falling levels of military expenditure, particularly on weapons imports, resulted in a slight improvement in its Militarisation score. This is a significant improvement considering the malicious propaganda run by the media on how India has become intolerant, minorities are unsafe, democracy is in danger under the PM Modi Government. Leftist Media tried its level best to malign the image of India globally but it seems all those op-eds, speeches and books full of rants and rhetoric’s lacking substance failed to create zero effect. Probably the title for the next book of leftist intellectual would be ‘The Ministry of utmost Regretfulness’. The report encouraged the effort of government in tackling violent crimes effectively and weapon imports have decreased. India was also among the countries with the biggest decreases in the number of deaths, along with Sri Lanka, Chad, Colombia, and Uganda. Pakistan’s ranking continues to decline and because of Pakistan its neighbouring country Afghanistan’s rank has also declined.
This report is in fact endorsement of India’s peace efforts. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India has made efforts to create peace and stability in South Asia. In order to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan, India is indulged in a great developmental work in Afghanistan itself. India is doing the same with other South Asian nations under PM Modi’s neighbourhood first policy. All our neighbours have improved their position except Pakistan and Afghanistan. Rank of Pakistan and Afghanistan is 151 and 162, respectively.
According to a report some European countries rank has also declined. There is deterioration of overall ratings of Sweden and Denmark. This is most likely due to the illegal immigrant, who in the garb of refugees has made a complete mess of the nations. Europe has witness a great surge of violence with the entry of refugees in Europe. Crimes, riots, rapes, terror attacks, gang war, grenade attack and the list goes on. Despite this Europe is still known as the most peaceful region of the world.
Overall world peace has deteriorated by 0.27% in the last year. Ninety-two countries deteriorated, while 71 countries improved. The report said, “The world is less peaceful today than at any time in the last decade”. This is the fourth successive year of deterioration. Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and South America all witnessed deteriorations. Syria continuously remains the least peaceful nation in the world whereas Iceland remains to be the most peaceful nation in the world. It has been the most peaceful nation since 2008. Other peaceful countries include New Zealand (ranked 2nd), Austria (3rd), Portugal (4th), Denmark (5th), Canada (6th), Czech Republic (7th), Singapore (8th), Japan (9th) and Ireland (10th).
The report also reads that amid continuing social and political turmoil, the world continues to spend enormous resources on creating and containing violence but very little on peace.
