The barbaric acts Muslim invaders carried out in India is a historically undeniable fact. Through the glorifying portrayal of the Mughal rule in Indian textbooks, leftist historians have succeeded in painting a false image of the past. ‘Jizya’, the annual tax paid by a non-Muslim to continue living in an Islamic empire, the desecration of temples, the killings and mass conversion of the Indian subjects along with the humiliation they were subjected to on a daily basis, if properly accounted for, would make it to the list of the darkest periods of Indian history. The Mughal era might have ended but hardliner Islamist ideologies have survived in parts of the world.
India’s neighbour, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is a modern day example of the persecution and oppression policy followed by the hardcore Islamists in the old days. While many Hindu temples have been continually destroyed in Pakistan the Indian Muslim community has flourished. The followers of Islam in India enjoy the freedom and rights which would be the dream of any Pakistani Muslim. They are allowed to earn their bread and practice their religion freely. No restrictions are imposed on the Muslim community in India neither do they face any kind of discrimination. They do not have separate electorates and seats. In contrast, status of minorities is entirely different in Pakistan. The pressure to convert, ridiculed for being an idolater, and the ever increasing crimes against the minority Pakistani hindus take place on a daily basis in the country of Pakistan.
The latest news coming out of Pakistan is the gang rape and torture of a Pakistani hindu teenager in Thatta, Sindh by the son of a leader from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). PPP was founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in 1967. The party also boasts of giving Pakistan the most powerful female leader from Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto. PPP is currently the largest opposition party in the National Assembly of Pakistan. PPP also is the governing party in its stronghold province of Sindh. Rameezul haq, PPP leader, had contested elections on PPP’s tickets in the previous general elections. His hold over the area is considerable, so much so that the family of the victim had to flee their homes.
Arbab Ibrahim Memon is the prime accused in this case. He is the PPP leader’s son. He, along with a dozen other men, kidnapped and gang raped the boy, shot the whole incident and released the video footage online to further shame the victim and his family. This is not the first incident of sexual assault on Pakistani hindu boys. The 2016 Inder Vineet case which witnessed the sodomy and murder of the boy is of a similar nature. Incidentally, PPP was holding power in the Sindh province back in 2016, when the Inder Vineet case took place.
Home minister of Sindh Sohail Anwar told a leading daily of Pakistan, “Two employees of the health department, Saleh Memon and Saleem Ghugho have been suspended and I have ordered police to take action and arrest the culprits involved.”
He however, did not mention the reasons for failure in catching the prime accused, the son of the PPP leader, who is still away from the police’s net owing to the support of police officials and other PPP leaders.
While many claims will be made and much will be promised, the situation will not change in the country which believes in following hardcore Islamist principles, the persecution of Pakistani hindus and other minority groups will keep on happening with increased frequency in the failed state of Pakistan. The rise of Taliban coupled with the conservative beliefs of the Pakistani population will never let the minority population of Pakistan breathe in peace. It is time India shows concern and extends a helping hand towards the suffering Pakistani hindu population.
