“Well my gun fires seven different shades of shit, so what’s your favorite color, punk?”
~ Gerard Way
This was the quote that hit me suddenly when I came to know that the honorable CM of Delhi, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has requested the courts for some more time to find proper representation after Mr. Jethmalani removed him from his elite clientele list.
Come to think of it, nothing about Mr. Kejriwal surprises me anymore. However, every single instance, I read about such an event, it still manages to turn heads. To cut the long story short, Mr. Jethmalani told the honorable courts that he used “scandalous” terms for Mr. Jaitley on instructions from Mr. Kejriwal. Mr. Kejriwal, the gentleman that he is, flatly refused and denied any such frivolous statements, notwithstanding the fact that his previous twitter chats and press statements shared a close enough similarity with various individuals, most notable among those the PM of India.
Not to be left behind, the co-accused (other AAP leaders) also sought more time citing the excuse that their lawyers were unwell. CM’s counsel Shadan Farasat, requested the magistrate for a “short accommodation”. In response, Mr. Jaitley’s counsel made his submission to the court, stating, “They (Kejriwal and others) choose to spar with their lawyer, which is no ground for adjournment. Even the law says no adjournment except ‘beyond your control’ and it cannot be sought because of unavailability of a senior counsel.” Mr. Jaitley’s counsel notched up a bit on his vitriolic attack and squarely placed the blame on Mr. Kejriwal and team. Given the nature of the individuals involved (Read: making mountain out of a molehill), let me quote the response of Mr. Jaitley’s counsel:” They (AAP leaders) are acting together in defaming, and today they are acting together in delaying.”
Ladies and gentlemen, please bear in mind, this is the CM of Delhi we are talking about who exhorted his tongue not to spare any limits for hurling vexations and accusations. His repertoire and arsenal is the stuff of legend. With full respect to our huge democracy, the honorable CM won by a huge margin only to scandalize his reputation very soon in an effort to marginalize the Center. He stood like comrades with the Left and the anti-nationals of JNU, spearheaded worthless agitations after coming to power, stoked fires where there were none, tarnished reputations of individuals and institutions, lent support to die hard communalists who were biased to a particular community only under the garb of secularism, vent ire against the Center for prosecuting individuals accused or suspected of corruption and the list goes on and so does the gong.
Asking the honorable courts for more time is akin to desist away from the aspersions he hurled towards Mr. Jaitley. However, all this is in line with Kejriwal’s old school tactics of “shoot and scoot”.
Hand-in-gloves with his actions are his trusted lieutenants who share his sorry state of affairs. Just to remind our readers, the same scale was applied to Mr. Nitin Gadkari by the CM and his team who successfully dragged them to court and the latter was forced to apologize. However, Mr. Jaitley, a lawyer as he is bereft of the moral magnanimity of Mr. Gadkari. He had clearly stated to Mr. Kejriwal to apologize for his reckless and frivolous accusations lest which he will file a case in court. This was retorted with the all too familiar hullabaloo with which we are all well acquainted with.
However, there is a silver lining that was both unexpected and pleasant as a indirect result of this outcome. Owing to the lawsuit filed by Mr. Jaitley coupled with the fact that Kapil Mishra episode clearly denting his image inside the Assembly premises, Mr. Kejriwal has been absent from the headlines of mainstream media for quite some time now sparing the public of the frenzied whipped-up rhetoric critical of the Centre. This may also be due to the severe drubbing, AAP had received during the bypolls and the Municipal elections. This may be good in the long run since a responsible opposition always leads to better governance. Indian politics is a personality driven truck: more aura the personality possesses, the extra mileage is accorded to the political party. In this case, considering the present persona of Mr. Kejriwal, it is safe to assume that AAP as a political party packs a punch that is as good as a toddler who lashes out when woken from slumber.
Jaitley has Kejriwal firmly in his talons. He is a seasoned campaigner, Arvind Kejriwal chose a wrong opponent, wrong case, a wrong counsel and the fact that he is trying to run away is the biggest sin of them all. The Accuser-in-chief of Indian Politics is just a helpless man now.
