“I want to express my feeling that even at this critical juncture of Kashmir’s history, there is a chance, perhaps the last, for the Union Govt. to approach the Hurriyat Conference for a political dialogue. It is in years that Hurriyat has evolved, somewhat, into togetherness in its ranks and discernibly Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s word matters with Hurriyat’s Constituents!,” says Saifuddin Soz, a Senior Congress party leader and former union minister.
The congress party has fundamentally engraved the ideology of appeasement in its core. This is how they have been trying to solve the problem of Kashmir for decades and wants the present dispensation to also follow the same path.
Talks, dialogues, unconditional dialogues, interlocutors, meetings, conversation all sounds great and gives an impression that it’s so cool and fun to find the solution, if this is the key to the problem, why did the Congress fail for so many years? Saifuddin Soz might want to ponder over this.
Unless one doesn’t understand the problem, one can never find a solution and this is the basics that we even apply at our daily work.
Kashmir is not a complex problem, as has been made out for years by the people belonging to the Congress, the separatist’s and some of the Kashmir based regional parties. Prof Saifuddin Soz and the leaders of his likes are saying that the GOI should talk to Geelani unconditionally, but Geelani who in turn on behalf of the Separatists have already set the following 5 conditions for any talks:
(1) Right to self-determination
(2) Withdrawal of armed forces from the valley
(3) Release of all Kashmiri prisoners
(4) Withdrawal of all black laws in the valley
(5) Culprits of civilian killings in 2010 should be booked and punished
He further adds the India must accept that “Kashmir is not a part of India and is a disputed territory” also any dialogue should include India, Pakistan and the Separatist’s.
This is basically a cat and a mouse situation orchestrated from Geelani’s bosses in Pakistan and the past governments have always fallen prey to this trap. And Saifuddin Soz wants Government of India to prostrate in front of the separatists who are being ghost-directed from across the border.
First and fore most Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India, anyone who accepts this is welcome for talks and there should not be any compromise on this stand by New Delhi ever, whether talks happen or do not. Problems relating to governance and government can always be talked across the table and solutions are possible, but anyone indulging in violence has to be dealt with stern hand there can be no two ways about that be it the naxals or terrorist or the stone pelters of the valley. Talks between India and Pakistan only has one outstanding issue and that is of returning the “Pakistan occupied Kashmir”.
Now let’s try to understand the current fiasco and the problem in Kashmir. There was a terrorist called Burhan Wani, he was a commander of the terror organization “Hizbul Mujahideen” and was therefore shot dead by the security forces about a month back. Next there were few people, repeat again the word “few” in the Kashmir valley who did not like the assassination of their commander and they have been attacking the forces using stones. These stone pelters have been repeatedly warned to stop, but they did not and therefore the security forces had to retaliate initially with tear gas and then with pellet shots. The fundamental question still remains why there is a need to throw stones to protest against someone killed who was a terrorist?
These stone pelters and there messiah Geelani should be handled with iron hand. Geelani after all, is the same person who threatened violent mob action against the police. And then you have people like Omar Abdullah from National Conference, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saifuddin Soz from Congress igniting fires to score brownie points.
The Congress party along with its seasonal friends like communists and the SP want a debate on the issue of Kashmir in the parliament, though they spoke their hearts out already last week, they want to repeat again with a louder voice assuming that the nation has not heard of it. Obnoxiously there is currently an encounter undergoing between the Indian security forces and the terrorist in Macchil sector of North Kashmir Kupwara region and two of our BSF jawans have been martyred, but the irony is that there is no one to talk about them, No Nabi Azad, No Saifuddin Soz to grieve for them and no one to reach out for their families.
