“Government of India must accept the offer of talks over Kashmir from Pakistan.” further adding that “the BJP wants to revoke Article 370 so that it could change the Muslim demography of Jammu and Kashmir.” He also said “India is being criticized all over the world for using brute force on civilian population in Kashmir.”
Well these advises are coming from none other than the former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah whose family has ruled the state for large duration since independence. Right from his father to him to now his son looted the state along with Congress and is now lecturing the country of what should be done and what not. While the whole world is applauding and taking cognizance of the reformed stand taken by India on Kashmir, PoK and Baluchistan we have the old man still talking and playing politics. Undoubtedly the state of J&K and more precisely the Kashmir region is the most pampered region in the country and still these politicians always keep cribbing.
Our focus on this article will be more on his latest attempt to create a lunatic apprehension about the change in Muslim demography of J&K.
Since ancient times we have known and read about our civilization which has been one of the oldest on the planet. Sanatan dharma or the Hindu culture have always been prevailing on the vast stretches of land spanning from Afghanistan to Myanmar for centuries. Sages with great will power for meditation have been living on these glorious and vast mountains of Himalayas for year’s excelling the art of attaining high spirituality, discovering ways to help man kind in achieving peace, tranquility, truth and well-being.
Rishi Kashyapa being one of the most revered sages of the ancient times is often being described in our mythology where he captures and kills a demon / pisachas named “Jalodbhav” by draining the whole lake which he inhabited and post that, the region was named after him as “Kashyapmira”, which later transformed to “Kashmir”.
This is all hundreds of years before Islam was born and even much before the Muslim rulers from central Asia and Persia attacked the country and started mass persecution and conversion. So now we understand what the real demographic change is, who did it and when.
Let’s come back to present and understand the current scenario.
The Kashmiri pundits’ are Hindu by religion and have been in minority for long in the Muslim dominated Kashmir valley. They have been persecuted, badly beaten, insulted and killed for years. They have been driven out of the valley for decades with fear and anxiety on their faces, no one talked about them, no human rights took up their cause, no Amnesty, no Teesta Setalvads, not even the media for long showed there plights to the world. The same media which will go hammer & tongs on even a smallest inkling of violation on human rights anywhere else, but have been consciously silent for years on the sufferings of these pundits. NDTV which gives large coverage for Kashmir issues on its channel, but rarely talks about sufferings of these pundits, with its focus predominately on Muslims, stone pelters, sufferings of the terrorists and their families, separatists, pellet guns, the Abdullahs and Pakistan occupying most of their talk time. This is in spite of the fact that today 99 % of Kashmiri Pundits have been displaced from the valley.
“I invite you as a guest to my house with guns and knives in one hand and sweets on the other hand, but my invite is simply falling on deaf ears and you just are not paying any heed towards my hospitality”, simple …. this is how the Kashmiri pundits have been lip serviced by the politicians. The fact that the central government is in the process to form a secure and safe colonies for displaced pundits in the valley is something that’s making these guys feel jealous.
Article 370 has a defunct clause which says that “those J&K residents residing there before 1944 could have permanent resident certificate and can avail rights of citizenship in the state. The persons of rest of India cannot be permanent resident of the state and therefore people from other states can neither get employment, nor purchase property, nor can they have right to vote”. People from J&K can own land, work outside their state, get the highest share of central revenue, but citizens from other state cannot do the same in J&K and then we say our constitution says “all citizens of this country are equal”. This inequality is something the present dispensation is attempting to change and therefore the animosity by Farooq Abdullah against the Modi govternment.
Finally I rest my case with actual numbers to clear the air on the subject.
Year 1901 census mentioned that there were 74.16 % Muslims, 23.72 % Hindus and 1.21 % Buddhists. Year 1911 census gave the figures as 75.94 % Muslims, 22.06 % Hindus and 1.16 % Buddhists, while the latest census indicate the figures as 89 % Muslims, 9 % Hindus and 0.01 % Buddhists. Further breaking down to region specific, the Kashmir valley has 99 % Muslims and 1 % Hindus, Jammu region has 35% Muslims and 60 % Hindus, Ladakh having 46% Muslims and 51% Buddhists, PoK, Gilgit and Baltistan having 100% Muslims.
The above excludes stats from Aksai Chin or Chinese occupied Ladhak (CoL) and Chinese occupied Kashmir (CoK).
