Austerity as Strategy: What Modi’s Consumption Appeal Reveals About India’s Global Risk Outlook

Stumbling and Stuttering, Fumbling and Faltering – Sonia Gandhi, the Italian Matriarch of the Indian National Congress hollered in broad daylight about how the Narendra Modi led NDA government is murdering Democracy in the country. The speech consisted mostly of atrocious allegations to justify baseless assertions and audacious claims to exalt the Congress Party to league of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The March was fronted as an effort to Save Democracy in India and even Manmohan Singh, who was silent for the most part of his ten year tenure as the Prime Minister of the nation, found his long lost voice to raise objections against the BJP. The protest march was also attended by the prodigal son of the Gandhi dynasty, Rahul Gandhi, who is still showing no signs of overcoming his infantile unhealthy obsession with the RSS.

The March was littered with bewildering and cringe-worthy remarks which could only be cheered by the sycophants which are to be found in abundance in the Congress Ranks. “I want to tell Modi and his government that Congress is India’s soul,” whispered Manmohan Singh in is usual polite demeanor. I would want to remind Mr. Singh that no political party could ever be the soul of this great nation of ours, not AAP, not JDU, not CPI-M or even the BJP for that matter, least of all the Congress. The soul of this nation is the collective sighs of over a billion lives that strive for prosperity and struggle for a livelihood every single day. The soul of this nation is represented in the Bells that toll in every Temple, in every Mosque and Dargah that heeds the prayers of every single devotee, in every Gurudwara that satiate the hunger of hundreds of empty stomachs every day, in the Churches where Carols and Hymns are sung in worship of the Divine. Politics is dirty business, Mr. Singh, please do not Sully the Soul of the Nation for mere political gains.

Sonia Gandhi said in that frantic tone of hers which has become even shriller as the noose is tied around the neck of her political party, “Life has taught me to struggle, we have faced lot of challenges. Nothing new for us to fight anti-national elements.” Mr. Gandhi, not one person is concerned about your personal life. All of us have struggled in one form or another since the moment we were born. But only you seem to bring it up every time charges of corruption and nepotism are brought up against your party. And about antinational elements, your son, Rahul was seen in JNU hours after Antinational slogans were raised in the campus. The last time I checked, lending support to antinational elements wasn’t a very appropriate to fight antinational elements.

Sonia Gandhi harped on, “We are the people who have given their blood & laid down their lives to protect the basic principles of humanity.” Well, are you claiming that the Congress Party are the only ones who have laid down their lives for humanity? And it’s a very dubious assertion that the current crop of Congress leaders have done anything major to safeguard humanity. In the ten years of the UPA government, the Congress Party compromised the national security of India, Digivijaya Singh claimed 26/11 was the RSS’ doing, the highest echelons of the UPA Government painted Terrorist Ishrat Jahaan as a Martyr, scamsters looted the nation which heavily dented our image at the International level. After all that, dear lady, you do not get to say ‘We have laid down our lives to protect basic principles of humanity.’

Sonia Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress croaked, “Vidyaarthiyon par zulm ho rahe hain. Palak jhapakte hi yeh kisi ko bhi desh-drohi ghoshit kar dete hain.” Well, I am a student and I can assure you an overwhelming majority of students unequivocally support the Government crackdown on the clowns at JNU.

No matter how hard you try, you could never convince the silent majority of us that it was a Government vs Students issue because it was not. It was a Government crackdown on freeloaders who were using University Campus to incite hatred towards India, our Motherland.

“We have come together to give message that we will not let Modi govt topple democracy.” For a party which stubbornly prevents the Parliament from functioning, Sonia Gandhi lives under the delusion that the common man cannot see through her facade. “Humein daraane ki, badnaam karne ki kitni bhi koshish ye log kar lein par hum jhukne walon mein se nhi.” Well, a lot of us are glad that you are getting closer everyday to admitting that you are scared indeed. Also, in case you haven’t noticed, Sonia Gandhi, you’re already down to 44 seats in the Lok Sabha, so whether you admit it or not, you’ve bowed down to Narendra Modi and if recent events are any signs, Narendra Modi will be the person who finally drives your political ambitions into oblivion.

There was no derth of incredulous comments in the speeches that were made and Rahul Gandhi once again polluted the atmosphere with his inane remarks about the Prime Minister and the Sangh. “Aaj hindustan mein sirf do logon ki baat chalti hai, Narendra Modi ji aur Mohan Bhagwat ji.” Well, in Kerala where RSS workers and BJP cadres are murdered at such a prolific rate would disagree with you, Mr. Gandhi. And so is the case in Tamil Nadu where Jayalalithaa is worshipped and in West Bengal where Mamata Banerjee is making a mockery of Law and Order and of course in Delhi, where a megalomaniac is forcing his writ and delusions on the Delhi Population at large. But don’t let facts get in the way of your agenda, Rahul. “Whoever talks against Modi ji and BJP, false accusations are made on that person.” Barkha Dutt is having the time of her life, Rajdeep Sardesai continues to be free, Sagarika Ghose does not seem to be in Court either, and all these people actually make their living peddling lies about BJP and Narendra Modi. So, again, Rahul Gandhi, your lies fall apart in the face of facts.

However, the most authentic words in the March did come from the Prodigal son himself. “PM Modi has only one vision i.e. ‘Congress mukt Bharat'”. Yes, about that, he is absolutely correct, particularly because he stated the obvious. If memory serves us right, it was the slogan on which Narendra Modi ran his Prime Ministerial campaign and that is why crores of people voted for Narendra Modi, to realize the vision of an India without the Congress Party. In light of recent events, it can be safely said, the vision is well under way.
