KS Bhagawan the Anti-Hindu “Rationalist” to receive Sahitya Academi Lifetime Achievement Award

KS Bhagawan the Anti-Hindu “Rationalist” to receive Sahitya Academi Lifetime Achievement Award
Share on FacebookShare on X

Awards returned by intellectuals, celebrities and writers has turned out to be a big farce in recent days and one can’t even fathom the reason behind this mass hysteria. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had rightfully hit out at those creative (?) personalities returning their awards as “rabid anti-BJP elements”. It is not at all surprising as far as a common man’s opinion is concerned. In fact, most of us didn’t even know these authors in the first place.

Arun Jaitley slammed the Award Returning writers in his reply stating “those who are returning awards are playing politics by other means.” Their agenda is quite clear that they are creating an anti-ruling party environment while there is an election happening in Bihar.

This post is not about criticizing those writers and celebs. We knew their intentional political gambling. This post is to enlighten the readers about a professor from Karnataka who is all set to receive the Prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for Lifetime achievement. Ironically, this professor goes by the name KS Bhagawan. A rabid leftist, anti-Hindu, “rationalist” writer and a retired professor is amongst the five chosen personalities for the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi’s annual honorary award for Lifetime Achievement for the year 2013. The awards will be presented to them on November 7th in Dharawad, Karnataka, said Karnataka Sahitya Akademi president Malati Pattanashetti.

Who is Prof. KS Bhagawan?

Prof. KS Bhagawan is a rationalist, writer, translator and a retired professor. He has worked mainly on translating the works of William Shakespeare including Julius Caesar and Hamlet in to Kannada language. As a professor he used to teach English at Maharaja College in Mysore. He is a habitual and Compulsive Anti-Hindu speaker. He has spoken on many occasions at many seminars. Recently, he said that he would burn Bhagavad Gita citing the reason that the verses 32 and 33 in chapter 9 of the scripture describes Women, Vaishyas and Shoodras as “Sinners” (Paapayonaha).

He went on a rampage and gave many anti-Hindu speeches in past few months. I will highlight only few things here:

– Lord Shri Ram was not born to his father.
– Kunti gave birth to Pandavas by indulging in illicit relationship/prostitution.
– We should burn Bhagavad Gita as it preaches Caste system, Violence and degrades women. Especially verses 32 and 33 from Chapter 9.
– Ramayana and Mahabharata are false stories.
– Shri Ram was a drunkard and was forcing Sita Mata to drink as well.
– Lord Shri Rama committed suicide
– Farmer’s suicide has increased in the country because they worship Lord Rama.
– Shri Shankaracharya was a rabid Dalit hater and he was promoting the Chaturvarna i.e. the Caste system.

I will just stop here. Adding more of his speech samples will instigate abhorrence among people. But you do get a fair idea about the outlook of Prof. KS Bhagawan. In one program held at Mysore, Prof. Bhagavan had criticized and talked about burning copies of Bhagvad Geeta. Prof. Bhagavan had criticized Hindu Deities even earlier. A local MLA had to step in and avert his antics.

Prof. KS Bhagawan was backed by the ruling Congress government. The state government of Karnataka has provided security and a 24X7 gunman facility for KS Bhagawan after he started receiving threat calls from public. In fact, the congress government in Karnataka has sponsored his safe exit to Kerala. In addition, the Chief Minister of Karnataka also mentioned “Prof. Bhagwan has every right to speak his mind and it is an absolute freedom of expression.” But, the same Chief Minister Siddharamaiah ordered to confiscate the book “Valmiki Yaru?” (Who is Valmiki?) of Prof. K. Narayanachar citing the reason that this book would hurt the sentiments of people from Valmiki community. The flippant thing is, Prof. KS. KS Bhagawan was one of the member in the committee that setup to recommend ban on Prof. K. Narayanachar’s book on Valmiki. The state sponsored discrimination is on full swing in Karnataka. The Anti-Hindu speakers and writers are promoted at state’s expense while the real writers and thinkers are marked as Anti-Minority and Anti-Dalits.

Congress government in Karnataka provides security for those who are Anti-Hindu and promote their events. Number of cases have been filed against Prof. KS Bhagawan and almost all cases has been muzzled at the roots itself.

FIR against KS Bhagawan and no action by Police:

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed KS Bhagwan for “hurting” religious sentiments. KS Bhagawan had incurred the wrath of activists after he disparaged the Bhagavad Gita while speaking at a programme in Mysuru in February this year.

The complaint against Bhagwan was filed by a person named Shyam in Upinangady near Mangalore. The complainant said Bhagwan’s recent speech at Gandhi Bhavan in Bengaluru had hurt Hindu sentiments. A senior police officer said that the FIR was filed and the case transferred to the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru.

There wasn’t no progress in the aforementioned case against KS Bhagawan probably because Police were tipped off by the government.

Petition filed by activists:

An online petition on change (dot) org opposing the award to Bhagwan has gathered over 11,500 signatures so far and more than 5000 signatures gathered on the very first day of its initiation. This petition demands that the academy drop his name from the list. The awards are to be presented by Siddaramaiah at Dharwad on 7 November. But, the government’s clever silence in this regard speaks its credibility of running an Anti-Hindu government.

Unfortunately, the Sahitya Akademi board has become a puppet while the state government is its master.
