We were told by certain people that Fatwas are merely opinions and not remotely as scary as they are made out to be. These are the same people who are unwilling to admit that terrorism in the modern world has a very specific religious flavour. And while they were making such claims after the recent controversy over Sonu Nigam’s tweets on Azaan, a Hindu man was stabbed by two men from the Peaceful Community for supporting the singer’s stance on Facebook.
Unfortunately, the outrage that usually follows every random crime against some person from the Peaceful Minority is conspicuously absent in light of this grievous assault on a Hindu man for merely expressing his opinions on social media. The secular brigade which is always so quick to remark on ‘Hindu fanaticism’ has only half-heartedly spoken out against the crime. Journalists who usually demand that the Prime Minister condemn random crimes against members of their beloved community have made no such appeals to Narendra Modi to speak out on the matter.
The reaction of one particular media house was intriguing and quite troubling indeed. CNN News 18 ran a report on the incident with the headline, “Sonu Nigam Tweets Lead to a Real-Life Fight in MP’s Ujjain, 2 Injured”.
The headline makes it seem as if Sonu Nigam is responsible for the ‘fight’ that ensued and it quite willingly ignores that it wasn’t a ‘fight’, it was a premeditated attack inspired by man’s opinions on Azaan on Facebook.
Perhaps, if journalists, instead of complaining and whining about every other problem in the world focused on improving their own standards, journalism wouldn’t have been as disgraced a profession as it is now.
The outrage factory of the liberal brigade is always so obsessed with mythical Hindu radicalization and Hindu terrorism that it fails to produce any outrage when Hindus are attacked for merely expressing their opinions in their own land. Meanwhile, in Saharanpur, heavy stone pelting ensued over an Ambedkar Jayanti procession in Doodhli Village. Politicians who keep dreaming of Dalit-Muslim unity would perhaps want to consider why it never ever works on the ground. In March, an ex-Muslim atheist, H Farooq, was murdered in Tamil Nadu for his disbelief in Islam. Contrast the outrage over Farooq’s death with that over Dabholkar, do you see a pattern here?
With Islamic fundamentalism on the rise, it is only natural that it will spark a reaction among Hindus. But liberals are more interested in absolving Islam of all sins than addressing the urgent need for a reform in Islam. Some might argue that Islam is incapable of any reform in its outlook towards ‘Kaafirs’ and while I am sympathetic towards such a view, it is of paramount importance that we encourage those reformers from within the community who are making an honest attempt at reforming the Islamic society.
Amidst the chaos that ensued after Sonu Nigam’s tweets, with the fatwa being issued and a reward announced for anyone who shaves Sonu Nigam’s head, some people are calling it a giant conspiracy to malign the Islamic community. Political analyst Tehseen Poonawallah, a self-proclaimed atheist, is convinced that Muslims are victims of a ‘Media Jihad‘ or a ‘Media Holocaust’ and an ‘Electronic Genocide’ is being perpetrated against the Muslim community by the ‘Islamophobic Media’. It is a hallmark of the stupidity and the utter idiocy of our liberals that alleged unfair media coverage of a particular community is labeled as ‘Holocaust’ and ‘Genocide’ and ‘Jihad’. Wouldn’t we all be grateful if the worst Jihad could do was spout incoherent inanities on news channels?
One hopes that liberals and secularists would start displaying some consistency in their outrage and would emphasize on the desperate need for reforms in the Islamic community. It was bewildering to see that liberals were more interested in insulting Sonu Nigam than addressing the Fatwa that was issued against him. By constantly peddling the narrative that minorities are under threat (they’re not) and being oppressed (definitely not) in India while ignoring the desperate need for reform, liberals are only fueling a dangerous victimhood complex among members of the Peaceful community which would result in further radicalization. And all for what? Because of the morbid hatred that liberals bear in their heart for Narendra Modi and the BJP. It is time that the Secular Brigade realize that the narratives they push have consequences, consequences that will be precisely be the opposite of what they seek to achieve or claim to seek to achieve.
