A year after 26 civilians lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack, India has sent a clear message. The country remembers, and it stands firm.
On the anniversary of the April 22, 2025, attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims while acknowledging the grief of their families. The attack, which largely targeted tourists, shocked the nation and drew strong global condemnation.
Importantly, the Prime Minister said the victims will always be remembered. As a result, their loss continues to shape India’s response.
PM Modi highlights unity and resolve
In a message on X, PM Modi said, “Remembering the innocent lives lost in the gruesome Pahalgam terror attack on this day last year. They will never be forgotten. My thoughts are also with the bereaved families as they cope with this loss.”
He said India stands united in grief and determination. At the same time, the country will not give in to terrorism. He also stressed that such violent plans will fail.
Therefore, his remarks reinforce a consistent national approach, with India continuing to respond firmly to terror threats.
Army points to sustained operations
Meanwhile, the Indian Army marked the anniversary with a strong statement. It warned that those responsible for acts of terror will face consequences and stressed that responses remain decisive.
The Army highlighted Operation Mahadev. During the operation, forces carried out a 93-day search across 300 square kilometres of difficult terrain. Consequently, the operation led to the elimination of three individuals linked to the Pahalgam attack.
In addition, it confirmed that Operation Sindoor continues, signalling that counter-terror efforts remain active.
From attack to targeted response
The Pahalgam attack reflected extreme brutality. Terrorists reportedly identified victims based on religion before shooting them in front of their families. This, in turn, intensified outrage across the country.
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. The armed forces targeted terror infrastructure across the border and destroyed nine major launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. As a result, more than 100 terrorists were killed.
However, Pakistan’s response triggered a brief four-day escalation. A ceasefire followed on May 10.
Subsequently, Indian forces launched Operation Mahadev and tracked down those involved in the attack. Eventually, they neutralised all three perpetrators.
A message that endures
One year later, the message remains direct. India remembers its victims while maintaining a firm stance against terrorism.
Ultimately, this anniversary is not just about remembrance. Instead, it reflects a clear approach. Acts of terror will meet a strong response, and authorities will pursue those responsible until justice is delivered.
