Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday watched the much‑talked‑about film The Kerala Story 2 at the Mall of Dehradun and described the film as a powerful medium that raises awareness by highlighting sensitive issues affecting the society.
CM Dhami emphasised that the state government is fully committed to women’s safety, social harmony, and population balance and noted that Uttarakhand has become the first state in India to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a historic step that he believes will advance equality and justice for all citizens.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Uttarakhand has enacted a strict anti‑conversion law, which has helped curb illegal and forced religious conversions and that such laws strengthen transparency, security, and trust within the community.
CM Dhami made it clear that the government’s goal is not to target any specific group, but to protect the rights of all citizens and urged youth to remain vigilant and contribute positively toward social change.
The Chief Minister also said that films like The Kerala Story 2 encourage society to reflect and understand important issues, and that his government supports such efforts.
Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Durgeshwar Lal, former MLA Rajesh Shukla, and other public representatives were present on the occasion.
Film Crosses Rs 50 Cr Mark Amid ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Buzz
The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond’, a spiritual sequel to the 2023 hit ‘The Kerala Story’, directed by Sudipto Sen, finally crossed the Rs 50 crore mark as it nears the end of its third week in theaters.
According to the Sacnilk report, ‘The Kerala Story 2’ has raked in Rs 1.63 crore at the box office on Day 19, despite the massive buzz around the upcoming release of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’. With that, the total net collection of the film now stands at Rs 50.58 crore. The gross earnings of the movie are Rs 58.91 crore.
The film, a sequel to the controversial 2023 movie The Kerala Story, explores themes of alleged forced religious conversion and social manipulation.
While the film has been showcasing stable box office numbers, it couldn’t catch up to its predecessor. ‘The Kerala Story’ (2023) became a massive hit among the audience, despite its controversial subject. It went on to earn over Rs 300 crore worldwide.
