Nearly ten months ago, a woman from Aligarh, Sapna, made national headlines after eloping with her would-be son-in-law, Rahul, just before her daughter’s wedding. The couple reportedly stayed together in Sitamarhi, Bihar, where Rahul ran a clothing business. Now, the story has taken another shocking turn: Sapna has allegedly left Rahul and absconded with her brother-in-law, taking cash and jewelry with her.
The original incident occurred in April 2025. Sapna’s daughter’s wedding was scheduled for April 16. Just 12 days prior, Sapna left her home with Rahul. The Aligarh family soon discovered that cash and jewelry were missing. The daughter claimed her mother left nothing behind, but relatives said approximately ₹5 lakh worth of jewelry and ₹3.5 lakh in cash disappeared.
The relationship between Sapna and Rahul reportedly developed during wedding preparations. Initially, they discussed family matters, but gradually, phone conversations stretched to hours each day. Sapna’s husband, Jitendra, later alleged that the couple spent 15–20 hours talking on the phone. When the affair came to light, they had traveled from Aligarh to Kasganj, Bareilly, and finally to Sitamarhi, Bihar. Locals reportedly knew them as a husband-and-wife pair.
The Aligarh police initially allowed them to stay together after counseling. Sapna claimed she left her home due to domestic violence, alleging her husband was abusive and frequently threatened to throw her out. Rahul maintained that he went with her voluntarily, as she appeared distressed and unwilling to live alone.
For nearly ten months, they lived together in Bihar. However, Rahul recently claimed that Sapna abandoned him for her brother-in-law. According to him, she took ₹2 lakh in cash and some jewelry when she left. Rahul expressed his heartbreak, stating he had faced societal criticism and left his home for the relationship, only to be deserted.
Rahul approached the Aligarh police to file a complaint, but they redirected him to Bihar, stating that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the Bihar police. Authorities confirmed that since Sapna and Rahul had been living in Bihar, only the local police there could take action. Rahul is now preparing to file the complaint in Sitamarhi.
This unusual case has sparked discussions nationwide about the changing dynamics of relationships and societal norms. Initially, the would-be son-in-law became a partner for the mother-in-law, and now the narrative has shifted with the entry of her brother-in-law. Observers say the saga resembles a film script, with a new twist appearing every few months.
