On Friday (December 26), in a moving recognition of courage and compassion, 10-year-old Shravan Singh from Chak Taran Wali village in Punjab’s Ferozepur district was conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by President Droupadi Murmu. The award honours Shravan’s selfless service to Indian Army personnel during Operation Sindoor, when he quietly supported soldiers stationed along the border despite serious security risks.
Shravan Singh came into national focus after it emerged that during Operation Sindoor. He regularly delivered essentials such as water, milk, lassi, tea, and breakfast to soldiers deployed near his home. Notably, these daily supply runs were carried out amid a tense security environment, marked by constant threats from hostile drones.
Nevertheless, Shravan continued his efforts with determination and pride, becoming a source of morale for the troops.
According to officials, Shravan did not act alone. Instead, he motivated his family and members of the local community to contribute food and basic supplies for the soldiers. As a result, his initiative evolved into a small but consistent support system for the Army at the frontline. Importantly, his actions reflected a deep sense of patriotism at a remarkably young age.

While presenting the awards, President Murmu specifically stressed Shravan Singh’s courage. She said, “despite the risks associated with a war-like situation during Operation Sindoor, the young boy ensured that soldiers received water, milk, and lassi on a regular basis.” At the same ceremony, the President also praised other awardees, including differently-abled sportsperson Shivani Hosuru Uppara, underlining the diverse forms of courage displayed by India’s children.
Meanwhile, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann congratulated Shravan Singh on his achievement. He described the award as a matter of pride not only for Ferozepur but for the entire state. Furthermore, local residents hailed Shravan as an example of grassroots patriotism, saying his actions symbolised the strong bond between civilians and the armed forces in border areas.
President Murmu presented the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar to 20 children from 18 states and Union Territories. These awards recognised exceptional achievements across fields such as bravery, art and culture, sports, innovation, and social service. Consequently, the ceremony showcased the wide-ranging contributions of children to nation-building.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar is among India’s highest civilian honours for children. It is often linked with the spirit of Veer Bal Diwas, which commemorates the supreme sacrifice of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, the young sons of Guru Gobind Singh. In this context, the award aims to inspire children by celebrating courage, resilience, and service to society.
Ultimately, Shravan Singh’s story stands as a reminder that acts of bravery are not defined by age. Instead, they are shaped by intent, compassion, and a determined sense of duty to the nation.
