In a shocking incident that has sent waves of anger across Kerala, innocent children dressed as little Krishnas and Radhas were brutally attacked by CPM cadres during Janmashtami celebrations in Kozhikode. The procession, organised by Balagokulam the world’s largest children’s movement turned into a nightmare when communist goons stormed the peaceful Shobha Yatra simply because a devotional bhajan on Lord Ram was being sung.
This attack was not just intolerance, but sheer barbarism. It shows how far the CPM government has sunk, as they are openly targeting Hindu festivals and attempting to intimidate the majority community in their own homeland. The attack is a grim reminder that in Kerala today, Hindus are not even allowed to celebrate their festivals peacefully.
Janmashtami Celebrations Marred by Violence
Across Kerala, Janmashtami is one of the most vibrant festivals, with thousands of children taking part in colourful Shobha Yatras, dressed as Krishnas and Radhas. These processions are symbols of joy, innocence, and devotion. This year, on September 14, thousands gathered for similar celebrations across the state. However, as has become the pattern in recent years, celebrations of Dharma were met with disruption and violence.
In Narippatta near Kozhikode, the procession was proceeding peacefully until a Ram bhajan was played. Enraged CPM cadres attacked the procession, leaving several injured, including young children and their parents. The very fact that a devotional song on Sri Ram provoked such hostility reveals the deep-rooted contempt the communists harbour against Hindu faith and culture.
A Recurring Pattern of Targeting Hindu Faith
It is no longer possible to dismiss such incidents as isolated. Year after year, Hindu festivals in Kerala are disrupted by those opposed to Dharma. At Chittariparambu in Kannur, CPM workers even declared the area an “RSS-banned zone” and attempted to stop a yatra. Despite the disruption, children courageously continued, shielded by Swayam Sevaks who formed a protective circle around them.
In Alappuzha, DYFI cadres waving Che Guevara flags attempted to provoke devotees and block another Shobha Yatra, leaving many injured, including a young girl who suffered an ear injury. The pattern is clear: Hindu celebrations are being deliberately targeted to instill fear and erode cultural traditions. Would the CPM government dare to unleash such violence during Muharram processions or Easter celebrations? Certainly not, because their vote bank politics rests on appeasing minority groups. Hindus, however, are treated as soft targets because the Left assumes no one will question their aggression against the majority faith.

Media Silence and Political Hypocrisy
The saddest part is that these incidents barely make it to the mainstream headlines. The same media, which raises its voice on the smallest issues elsewhere, chooses to remain silent when Hindu festivals are attacked in Kerala. This silence enables the CPM government to carry on with its anti-Hindu policies. The Sabarimala temple episode was a glaring example, where traditions were trampled upon in the name of secularism.
Now, the attacks have reached the streets, with little children being assaulted for simply taking part in a religious yatra. If this is not religious persecution, then what is? The political establishment in Kerala has normalized violence against Hindu beliefs under the garb of “progressive secularism,” but in reality, it is nothing short of a systematic attempt to weaken Dharma.
A Direct Assault on Dharma
The attack on Janmashtami yatras is not just an assault on children and devotees it is a direct assault on Dharma itself. The CPM government in Kerala has shown once again that it is not just indifferent to Hindu traditions but actively hostile to them. They would never dare to disrupt processions of other religions, but when it comes to Hindus, they believe they can get away with repeated attacks.
This double standard exposes the deep rot of vote-bank politics that has gripped Kerala. The people of the state must ask: how long will such violence and intolerance be tolerated? Festivals like Janmashtami represent joy, devotion, and the cultural heartbeat of the land.
To attack them is to attack Kerala’s very identity. It is high time the majority rises to safeguard Dharma, because silence today will only embolden those who want to erase Hindu traditions tomorrow.
