In a significant development the Canadian government has declared the Lawrence Bishnoi Gang a ‘terrorist entity’ under its Criminal Code, Canadian Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said Monday evening.
This means any Bishnoi gang asset in that country, from cash to vehicles and property, can be frozen or seized, giving Canadian law enforcement more powers to prosecute gang members for various offences, including those related to financing of terrorist activities.
The Bishnoi Gang over the years has been linked to all kinds of extortions, kidnapping, murders, arms and drug trafficking in Canada and internationally.
With this act it also means that now Canadian immigration officials can deny suspected gang members entry into the country.
“Acts of violence and terror have no place in Canada, especially those that target specific communities to create a climate of fear and intimidation,” a government statement said.
Under Canadian law, it is now a criminal offence for a Canadian citizen, and those abroad, to knowingly deal with property owned or controlled by the Bishnoi gang. It is also a criminal offence to directly or indirectly provide property knowing it will be used by or benefit the gang.
However what is peculiar is how Canada and the West is approaching the Bishnoi gang with such decisive moves while it still uses kids gloves for the Khalistani movement. Is there something more sinister at play?
Canada’s two faced approach
While it is understandable that the Bishnoi gang has come into focus for the Candian authorities and strict action has been taken against them, yet it is quite shocking that the Candian authorities have chosen not to take any similar action against the violent Khalistanis in the country.
Despite the Indian government for years warning about the radical Khalistani element in Canada that has actually conducted terror attacks like the Kanishka plane bombings, open threats and attacks on officials, regardless the Ottawa government has taken no action to curb their growing influence and power.
So much so that Khalistanis have now become backroom brokers in Canadian politics with NDP leader Jagmeet Singh openly backing these elements. Singh has been so openly involved with these entities that he became the first Western legislator to be denied entry into India due to his links with radical Khalistanis.
Under the previous Candian PM Justin Trudeau the killing of another radical known as Hardeep Singh Nijjar was made into a national crisis, with Trudueau accusing India of assassinating the radical Kahlistani. No proof or evidence was shared to back these accusations yet Trudeau even reiterated these barbs in the Parliament ending up severely destroying Canada’s ties with India.
This begs the question why the West which is barely bothered about actual long term terror elements operating on its soil involved in all kinds of illegal and teror activities is now hell bent on labelling one particular gang? Is it political pressure or is there a more sinister game being played?
US backed Shebaz Sharif speech against Hindus
In a recent speech at the UN Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also unleashed a tirade against Hindus, he also referred to what he called “India’s Hindutva-driven extremism”, and said: “There must be no space for hate speech…or violence against any person or any religion. Hate-driven ideology such as India’s Hindutva-driven extremism pose a danger to the entire world.” Sharif declared.
Now this speech is even more peculiar as this narrative has been the go to for Pakistan in the regional sphere but now Sharif is making this an international agenda. This narrative was once backed strongly by both Pakistan and the Congress Party, especially after the 2008 Mumbai attacks that later came to light were to be portrayed as a Hindu extremist act. Unfortunately for them the move failed as Ajmal Kasab was captured alive and the entire operation was revealed to be Pakistan’s brainchild.
One must also not forget the Sharif was also visiting US President Donald Trump with Army Chief Asim Munir. Since the India Pakistan clash in May 2025 the relations between New Delhi and Washington have fallen off a cliff. Trump has now pushed for strong tariffs against India while cutting down on the H1B Visas. A strong anti India campaign has been on in his MAGA voter base to demonize and target Indians while Trump has regular photoshoots with Sharif and Munir.
It should also not be forgotten that one of the biggest Khalistani leaders Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is a US citizen. Pannun has regularly threatened Indian officials, leaders and even indicated targeting Indian civilian aircrafts. Yet no strong action has been taken against him and his Organization, Sikhs For Justice which continues its operations.
Bishnoi Gang and Hindutva Angle
For some time now the Bishnoi Gang has been likened to a quasi Hindu mafia operation. Social media and public chatter have been linking Lawrence Bishnoi and his operatives as some Hindu gang which targets other elements. This narrative has received a lot of traction in the world reports. However it must not be forgotten that the Indian government has jailed Bishnoi for years.
Infact India has issued extradition requests for many of the gangs operatives abroad openly declaring them as dangerous violent individuals. In many cases we have seen Bishnoi gang members be arrested and even taken down when they have attempted to take the law into their hands. Moreover the Bishnoi gang has reportedly split with a Godara-Brar faction that is conducting its own activities
Recently shooters backed by the Godara-Brar faction attacked actress Disha Patani’s ancestral residence in Bareilly, the authorities quickly took action and gunned down the armed assailants. However what is troubling is that the faction asserted that they were conducting the actions due to the comments against Hindu guru Premanand ji Maharaj. The Bishnoi gang has come out and admonished the acts calling the Godara-Brar faction as traitors.
However what the general Hindu populace should gather from all this is that there seems to be an international game being played where certain elements are being presented as violent Hindu extremists. And an international narrative is being placed to declare them as such in turn attempting to taint the Hindutva movement. This can be ascertained with this sudden move of Canada as well as Sharif’s statements coming out at around the same time. Now the Hindu populace needs to be alert and not fall for any propaganda as there is expected to be more moves on this front with the Hindutva terror narrative once again being pushed forth now apparently with full Western backing.
