The tragic death of Nikki Bhati in Greater Noida has turned into one of the most disturbing and confusing cases of recent times. A New Twist: The CCTV Footage
The fresh CCTV clip that surfaced on social media has added a dramatic twist to the already sensational case. The footage, reportedly captured from a shop diagonally opposite the Bhati house in Sirsa village, shows a man believed to be Nikki’s husband Vipin Bhati standing at the shop around 5:42 pm on August 21.
In the video, Vipin, wearing a check shirt and blue trousers, can be seen chatting with two to three boys. At 5:47 pm, commotion suddenly breaks out, and Vipin sprints towards his house, followed by an older man. Moments later, Vipin emerges again, visibly panicked, and gestures frantically to bystanders before getting into a white car parked nearby. The timestamp on the video shows 5:45 to 5:48 pm, which coincides with the time Nikki’s family claims she was attacked.
Police officials, however, have cautioned that the authenticity of the footage is yet to be verified. Greater Noida Additional DCP Sudhir Kumar told reporters that while the clip has gone viral on social media, the police are still examining its accuracy and whether the timestamp aligns with other evidence.
Conflicting Claims: Murder or Accident?
The CCTV video has divided narratives further. Nikki’s sister Kanchan, who is also married into the Bhati family, has accused Vipin and his relatives of setting Nikki on fire. She has even shared disturbing videos on her YouTube channel, one of which allegedly shows Vipin dragging Nikki by the hair and mocking her to “make a video.” In another clip, Nikki is seen engulfed in flames on a staircase—though Vipin’s relatives argue that these videos are from an earlier incident last winter and not from August 21.
On the other side, Vipin’s cousin Devendra paints a completely different picture. According to him, Nikki’s burns were caused by a cylinder blast in the kitchen. He claims that Vipin was outside the house when the incident occurred and rushed inside only after hearing commotion. Devendra further insists that Nikki herself mentioned a cylinder blast to the family members while being taken to Fortis Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
This version directly clashes with Kanchan’s allegation of dowry harassment and deliberate murder, leaving investigators with two radically different stories to reconcile.
Police Probe: Between Social Media and Evidence
The police have arrested Vipin Bhati, his brother Rohit Bhati, and their parents Daya and Satveer in connection with the case. Officials say they are leaving no angle uninvestigated—whether it be dowry harassment, domestic violence, or suicide.
Authorities are now focused on cross-verifying the timing of the CCTV footage with the videos shared by Nikki’s family. They are also analyzing footage from the hospital where Nikki was admitted to determine whether she repeated her statement about a cylinder blast to doctors.
Sudhir Kumar, Additional DCP, stressed that premature conclusions cannot be drawn based solely on social media videos. “We are verifying every piece of footage and testimony. It is important to ensure accuracy before we proceed with charges,” he said.
The police are also investigating reports that Nikki and Vipin had a heated argument earlier that day. According to Nikki’s family, the fight was sparked by Nikki’s wish to reopen her beauty parlour and remain active on social media, which Vipin strongly opposed. When Nikki insisted, the family alleges, Vipin snapped and carried out the horrific act of setting her ablaze.
Social Media Buzz and Public Outrage
The case has attracted massive public attention, largely due to the disturbing visuals circulating on social media. While many sympathize with Nikki’s family and demand justice for what they believe is a clear case of dowry murder, others are urging caution, highlighting the need for verified evidence rather than trial by social media.
The fact that both Nikki and her sister Kanchan were married into the same family has only intensified the emotional weight of the case. Many see Kanchan’s public stand against her in-laws as a courageous act, but others question whether the videos she shared reflect the events of August 21 or earlier episodes of abuse.
