PM Modi in Bihar: Development Pitch Meets Political Pulse

PM Modi in Bihar

With the Bihar Assembly elections just a few months away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bihar’s Siwan district on Friday, where he is set to launch and lay the foundation stone for a series of infrastructure and development projects worth ₹5,700 crore.

This will be his second visit to Bihar in less than a month and his fifth since January, signalling how seriously and strategically the NDA is approaching the upcoming polls.

Modi has chosen Siwan district for this visit, a region of strong political symbolism. Once considered the stronghold of late RJD leader Mohammad Shahabuddin, Siwan is expected to witness unveiling of key projects during PM Modi’s visit.

With Bihar gearing up for Assembly elections, the BJP-led NDA is preparing to nominate a significant majority of its candidates from OBCs, EBCs, SCs, and Mahadalit communities.

This strategy follows an extensive analysis of all 243 constituencies in the state, aimed at strengthening and expanding the NDA’s voter base. The approach is part of the alliance’s broader plan to counter the INDIA bloc and tap into Bihar’s deeply rooted caste dynamics.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to address a public gathering around noon following the inauguration.

As part of a major boost to the region’s railway network, PM Modi will inaugurate the Vaishali–Deoria railway line, built at a cost of over ₹400 crore. A new passenger train service will also be flagged off on this route.

Additionally, the Prime Minister will launch the Patliputra–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, which will run via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, enhancing high-speed rail connectivity in North Bihar.

In a notable achievement under the ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ vision, PM Modi will also flag off the first export locomotive manufactured at the Marhowrah Plant — marking a significant step in India’s rail manufacturing capabilities.

Key Highlights from Bihar:

Rail Projects: Launch of the Vaishali–Deoria rail line (₹400+ crore) and flagging off of a Vande Bharat Express between Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah.

Other major projects to be launched during the visit include:

Bettiah power supply project worth Rs 69 crore

Chhapra water supply project worth Rs19 crore

Buxar water supply project worth Rs 156 crore

Motihari sewerage management project worth Rs 400 crore

Buxar sewerage management project worth Rs 256 crore

Export Milestone: Flagging off India’s first export locomotive built at the Marhowrah Plant for Guinea, West Africa.

Clean Ganga Push: Inauguration of 6 Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under Namami Gange (₹1,800 crore).

Urban Infra: Foundation stones for water and sanitation projects worth over ₹3,000 crore across Bihar towns.

Power Boost: Launch of a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across 15 substations to support affordable, reliable electricity.

Housing Aid: Release of first PMAY-Urban instalment to 53,600+ beneficiaries; keys handed over to select families for 6,600 completed homes.

As part of a two-day tour, PM Modi will also visit Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

On the same day, PM Modi will visit Bhubaneswar in Odisha and chair the state-level function, marking the completion of one year for the State Government of Odisha at around 4:15 PM.

He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 18,600 crore and address the gathering on the occasion.

The Prime Minister will chair the State-level function at Bhubaneswar to commemorate the completion of one year of the Government of Odisha.

In line with his commitment to the holistic development of Odisha, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 18,600 crore.

These projects will cover critical sectors, including drinking water, irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, sections of national highways, and a new railway line.

The Prime Minister will flag off new train services, extending rail connectivity to the Boudh district for the first time, marking a historic moment for the district’s integration with the national railway network.

In a major boost to clean energy and sustainable transport, Prime Minister will flag off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system, supporting a modern, eco-friendly urban mobility network.

Release the Odisha Vision Document, charting development goals for 2036 and 2047

Prime Minister will release the Odisha Vision Document. Anchored around the landmark years of 2036 (when Odisha completes 100 years as India’s first linguistic State) and 2047 (when India celebrates 100 years of independence), the Vision will outline an ambitious and future-ready roadmap for inclusive growth.

As a tribute to the contribution of eminent Odias, the Prime Minister will launch the ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’ initiative. It aims to transform their birthplaces into living memorials through museums, interpretation centers, statues, libraries, and public spaces that honour Odisha’s heritage while promoting cultural tourism.

The Prime Minister will felicitate women achievers from across the state, celebrating more than 16.50 lakh Lakhpati Didis as symbols of prosperity and self-reliance in the state. On June 21, the Prime Minister will participate in the International Yoga Day Mass Yoga Demonstration at around 6:30 AM in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and address the gathering.
