Following ‘Operation Sindoor’, India has placed its border areas on high alert. In this context, a decision has been made to conduct mock drills on Thursday in the states bordering Pakistan. According to reports, these mock drills will take place in border regions on Thursday evening.
Sources indicate that the Indian states where these drills will be held include Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and Punjab. Residents in these areas will be advised to remain vigilant during the drills.
These exercises come at a time when India and Pakistan had recently announced a ceasefire. The backdrop to this development includes a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, after which India destroyed nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
In response, the Pakistani military launched drone attacks into Indian territory, reportedly sending 300 to 400 drones. However, India’s air defense systems successfully neutralized these drones. The attacks targeted various border areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. Due to the attempted strikes involving drones and missiles, blackouts and sirens were triggered in several regions across these states.
India’s subsequent counterstrike reportedly caused panic in Pakistan. This led to talks between military officials from both sides, culminating in Pakistan initiating a ceasefire proposal, which was eventually announced formally.
Later, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the Indian strike at Noor Khan Airbase, during a grand event called ‘Youm-e-Tashakkur’ (Day of Gratitude). In his speech, Sharif said,
“At around 2:30 AM on the night of May 9 and 10, the Army Chief called me and informed me that India had attacked us using ballistic missiles. One missile hit Noor Khan Airbase, while others landed in different areas.”
