In the wake of India’s decisive military response to Pakistan, dubbed “Operation Sindoor,” Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state governments and party units across the country have come forward to express their heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership and the Indian Armed Forces.
The operation, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) following a deadly terrorist attack in Kashmir, has been hailed as a testament to India’s resolve against terrorism and a demonstration of its military prowess.
This follows the BJP’s central leadership’s statements lauding PM Modi and the armed forces for their “unwavering resolve and courage” in delivering a “befitting reply” to Pakistan’s provocations. This sentiment has cascaded down to BJP-ruled states and party units, which have organized events, resolutions, and public campaigns to celebrate the success of Operation Sindoor. Chief Ministers and state leaders have been quick to align with the central narrative, emphasizing Modi’s strong leadership and the armed forces’ valor, sources said.
In a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 7, 2025, Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of border states adjoining Pakistan and Nepal congratulated PM Modi and the armed forces for their decisive actions. States like Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Assam have passed resolutions in their legislative assemblies, commending the government’s firm stance and the military’s execution of precise strikes. These resolutions also highlighted PM Modi’s directive to the armed forces to deliver a response that was “bigger, stronger, and heavier” than Pakistan’s attacks, a message that has resonated deeply with the party’s cadre and supporters.
The plan is also to organise extensive outreach programs, through the BJP’s state units, to amplify the narrative of Operation Sindoor as a landmark victory against terrorism. In Gujarat, the state BJP unit organized rallies and public meetings to “combat misinformation from Pakistan” and to educate citizens about the operation’s success. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the armed forces for their “unimaginable damage” inflicted on Pakistan’s terror infrastructure, crediting Modi’s leadership for empowering the military with a “free hand” to act decisively.
In Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, BJP units have used social media campaigns and local media to highlight the operation’s strategic importance. These campaigns also aim to counter opposition narratives, particularly from the Congress, which has accused the BJP of politicizing the armed forces’ achievements.
It is believed that the BJP’s response to the military victory is not just about gratitude but also about consolidating its political base. The party has strategically positioned Operation Sindoor as a reflection of Modi’s “fouladi faisle” (iron-clad decisions), aimed at building a cohesive narrative that credits both the military and PM’s leadership.
This move is seen as an effort to sensitize the public to the BJP’s role in strengthening national security, especially in states where the party faces political challenges and also to reinforce the strong nationalist roots of the BJP.
The BJP’s state units are also using the victory to send a broader message about India’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism. This narrative has been particularly strong in border states, where Chief Ministers have emphasized the need for vigilance and unity in the face of external threats.
The party’s efforts also extend to addressing domestic concerns. For example, in Assam, the state government has tied the military victory to its broader agenda of cracking down on illegal infiltration, a key issue in the region. By aligning Operation Sindoor with local priorities, BJP units are ensuring that the victory resonates with diverse voter bases.
The BJP’s state governments and units have rallied behind PM Modi and the Indian armed forces, celebrating Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s fight against terrorism. Through resolutions, public campaigns, and strategic meetings, the party is reinforcing its image as a steadfast guardian of national security.
