As the plane developed a technical fault in the air, Siddharth exhibited exemplary presence of mind and courage. Rather than ejecting immediately, he intentionally steered the malfunctioning plane away from an inhabited area, ultimately sacrificing his life to prevent a colossal civilian tragedy. Eyewitnesses and authorities have praised his move as the ultimate act of courage and responsibility.
Accounts also indicate that Siddharth saved his co-pilot by assisting him to eject out of the plane before trying to rescue the aircraft. Unfortunately, he was not able to rescue himself in time.
A native of Rewari district in Haryana, Siddharth Yadav belonged to a family with a long history of serving the nation. He was the fourth-generation member of his family to serve the nation. His great-grandfather was in the Bengal Engineers under British rule, his grandfather was in the paramilitary forces, and his father Sushil Kumar was also in the IAF before going to work with LIC. Following the family tradition, Siddharth enlisted in the Indian Air Force after passing the NDA exam in 2016.
He trained hard for three years at Pune’s National Defence Academy, before becoming a fighter pilot. With over two years of active service, he got promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant.
The young officer who lost his life in the tragic crash had gotten engaged recently (March 23) and was to get married in November this year.
“He was a brilliant student. We were always proud of him,” said his father.
He added, “I served in the Air Force, and now he has laid down his life while saving others. I am proud, but as a father, it is also heartbreaking. He was my only son.”
Siddharth is survived by his father Sushil Kumar, mother Sushila Devi, and younger sister Khushi. His story stands as a poignant reminder of the bravery and selflessness that defines the Indian Armed Forces.
