A shocking murder case in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor has emerged with the arrest of Shivani, who reportedly murdered her husband Deepak Kumar, a railway technician deputed to Najibabad. Investigations by police have found that Shivani, goaded by chronic domestic troubles and hidden motives, sedated and strangled her husband at their rented house in Adarsh Nagar on April 4.
Deepak had come back home after two consecutive shifts when Shivani had served him breakfast with sleeping pills. After he became unconscious, she strangulated him, subsequently informing family and neighbors that he had died of a heart attack. But post-mortem reports established death due to manual strangulation, and Deepak’s brother lodged a murder complaint.
Shivani was arrested after intensive interrogation, during which she confessed to the murder, citing constant allegations on her character and domestic abuse by Deepak. ASP City Sanjeev Bajpai confirmed that Shivani acted alone, though further investigation is underway. She has been sent to jail after being presented in court.
Authorities have obtained a recording from Shivani’s smartphone that depicts the couple verbally arguing, during which the couple’s baby could be heard crying in the background. The recording has been included in the case evidence. According to autopsy reports, there were more visible pressure marks on the left side of Deepak’s neck, which coincides with the fact that Shivani sustained a fracture to her right hand and, thus, would have relied upon her uninjured left hand.
The couple had a love marriage in January 2024 after an eight-year-long relationship. However, domestic disputes began surfacing soon after, worsened by Shivani’s resistance to living with Deepak’s family. She insisted on moving out, and they had recently shifted to a rented house despite having government accommodation.
Police are also probing her alleged romantic ties with two men. One of them is reportedly a relative of a railway employee. Both are being questioned. Investigators suspect Shivani’s motive was to take over Deepak’s job and start a new life with one of her lovers.
The couple’s six-month-old child has now been handed over to Deepak’s mother, who claims Shivani never wanted to stay in her marital home and accuses her of premeditated murder driven by greed and infidelity.
