In a shocking case of crime against women, a woman, traveling from Kerala to Bihar, was sexually assaulted near KR Puram railway station in Bengaluru during the early hours of April 2. The incident occurred around 1:30 am when the victim, accompanied by her cousin, arrived at the station and was heading toward Mahadevapura to get food.
According to police, the victims were approached by two men who brutally attacked them. One of the suspects restrained the victim’s cousin, while the other dragged her to an isolated area and raped her.
The accused in this horrific Bengaluru rape case were identified as auto-rickshaw drivers who were sitting inside their vehicle before targeting the victim and her cousin. As the woman screamed for help, neighborhood residents stepped in. They were able to apprehend one of the suspects and immediately turned him over to the police.
Mahadevapura police personnel, who were on nighttime patrol, reached the spot and arrested the accused on the spot. The accused were later identified as Asif and Syed Mushar. Both of them hail from Mulabagilu in Karnataka’s Kolar district.
Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that Asif was the primary accused in the Bengaluru rape case, while Syed Mushar restrained the victim’s cousin to prevent him from intervening.
A case has been lodged in the Mahadevapura Police Station, and an inquiry is underway. The police have registered the case under the Bharatiya Nayay Sanhita Sections 115 (2), 126 (2), 351 (2), 351 (3), 352, 64, 3 (5).

The horrific incident has once again raised questions over women’s safety in Bengaluru, particularly near railway stations at odd times of the night. The authorities have assured stern action against the accused and reminded one to intensify patrolling at sensitive points to prevent such heinous crimes.
Locals who assisted in rescuing the victim and informing the police have been commended for their prompt action. The police have encouraged the public to report any suspicious behavior at once to ensure a safer place for commuters and residents.
