Malda district in West Bengal has become the epicenter of communal tensions after videos showing Islamist mobs vandalizing Hindu-owned businesses in Mothabari went viral on social media. The visuals depict a violent Islamist group marching through the streets, damaging shops and public property, that belonged to the Hindu community. West Bengal since long has come as a state that nurtures Islamists under the leadership of its Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee
Senior BJP leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari and Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, have strongly condemned the violence, accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) of appeasement politics and turning a blind eye to the attacks. Sharing the viral footage, Adhikari alleged that Hindu-owned shops were deliberately attacked, urging the police to take swift action.
Addressing the media, Adhikari revealed that the attacks began around 1 PM on March 27, 2025, and continued unabated as miscreants looted and destroyed Hindu properties. Union Minister of State for Education and Development of the North Eastern Region, Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, also slammed the state administration, stating,
“Horrific scenes from Dakshin Malda’s Mothabari—Hindu homes & shops vandalized by a violent mob. And what do @MamataOfficial and her mute spectator @WBPolice do? SILENCE. This is the cost of her shameless appeasement politics—lawlessness, fear & injustice for Hindus!”
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya also joined the criticism, sharing footage that he claimed showed mobs carrying Islamic flags and attacking Hindu businesses without provocation. He accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of ignoring the communal unrest while she was on a foreign tour in London.
Despite the viral videos, the state police have also remained silent, adding to suspicions of administrative inaction.
Demand for Central Forces in Malda
Given the scale of the attack and the failure of state authorities, Suvendu Adhikari has formally written to Governor C.V. Ananda Bose, urging him to deploy Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Mothabari to prevent further communal violence. In his letter, Suvendu Adhikari stated, “A shocking incident took place on March 27, 2025, where a large group of miscreants from a particular community launched a vicious attack on Sanatani Hindus. The lawlessness in West Bengal is alarming, and only CAPF deployment can protect Hindus from further violence.”
According to Suvendu Adhikari, the state police stood as “helpless puppets”, unable to control the violent mobs. He accused the ruling TMC of deliberately allowing Islamist elements to run riot, stating that the current administration was paving the way for a “Greater Bangladesh” through systematic appeasement politics.
