Abhay Singh, popularly known as ‘IIT Baba,’ has addressed the swirling rumors regarding his alleged arrest after being found in possession of cannabis. Various media reports claimed that he had been detained under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, IIT Baba has now clarified that he was never formally arrested, as the quantity of the narcotic substance was minimal and considered a low-level offense.
Amid the reports of his alleged detention, IIT Baba Abhay Singh was seen celebrating his birthday in Jaipur with a group of followers. Speaking to the media, he dismissed the rumors as “fake news,” emphasizing that he was granted bail immediately and was never taken into custody.
“There are three-four fake news stories: one is about my suicide, another about my detention. The only truth in all of this is that bail was granted right then and there,” he said.
He further stated that the police confirmed no formal arrest had been made due to the minor nature of the offense. The incident occurred during a routine police check when cannabis was discovered in his possession. Officers from Shipra Path Police Station in Jaipur reached Classic Hotel near Riddhi Siddhi Park to investigate and subsequently booked him under the NDPS Act. However, due to the small quantity involved, authorities deemed it a minor offense and did not proceed with an arrest. IIT Baba Abhay Singh first gained public attention during the Mahakumbh, where his unconventional spiritual practices and teachings attracted a significant following.
In another recent controversy, Singh alleged that he was assaulted at the newsroom of a private TV news channel in Noida. Last week, during an Instagram LIVE session, he claimed that he was mistreated and physically assaulted while participating in a debate at the news channel’s office. Following the alleged attack, he staged a sit-in protest outside a police station in Noida’s Sector 126, though he later withdrew the demonstration after police intervention.
