Sambhal has been in the news due to ongoing tensions related to Sambhal Jama Masjid disputes and previous incidents of violence. However, CO Anuj Chaudhary has taken a firm and balanced stance to ensure peace and communal harmony this Holi. His statement regarding Holi and Jumma has gained widespread attention, as he urged both communities to respect each other’s sentiments and maintain order.
In light of Holi falling on a Friday (Jumma), CO Anuj Chaudhary addressed the concerns, saying, “Jumma occurs 52 times a year, whereas Holi comes only once. If some members of the Muslim community feel that Holi colors may interfere with their religious practices, they can choose to stay indoors on that day. However, if they step outside, they should have the openness to accept that all festivals bring joy, and colors are simply a part of Holi celebrations.”
He also emphasized the importance of mutual respect, stating, “Just as Muslims eagerly await Eid, Hindus look forward to Holi throughout the year. Holi is celebrated with colors and sweets, while Eid is marked by sevaiyan and social gatherings. Both festivals symbolize love and brotherhood, and respecting each other’s traditions strengthens our social fabric.”
CO Anuj Chaudhary has proactively taken steps to ensure peace and prevent any potential communal tensions. He made a clear appeal to Hindus not to forcibly apply colors to those who wish to avoid them, ensuring that celebrations remain joyous for everyone. Similarly, he advised the Muslim community to understand that Holi is a national festival and should be approached with a spirit of inclusivity.
Alongside his appeal for harmony, CO Anuj Chaudhary issued a strict warning against those attempting to disrupt peace. He stated, “In Sambhal, we will not tolerate any negligence or attempts to incite unrest. If anyone, from any community, tries to disturb communal harmony, strict legal action will be taken against them.”
