The mystery surrounding the murder of property dealer Loknath Singh has finally been resolved. He succumbed to stab wounds and was found lifeless on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Saturday evening. His wife, 19-year-old Yashasvini Singh, and her mother, 37-year-old Hema Bai, have been arrested by Soladevanahalli police for the crime. The murder took place at BGS Layout near Bilijaji in North Bengaluru. Loknath, a resident of Kannur Gate in Magadi taluk, Ramanagara district, was sedated before being killed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Loknath had a history of cheating cases and had coerced Yashasvini’s family into accepting their marriage despite their objections. Since their marriage four months ago, he had harassed and tortured Yashasvini, especially when she resisted his physical demands. The breaking point came when he pressured her to convince her mother to have a physical relationship with him. Unable to endure his abuse any longer, Yashasvini left him and returned to her parents’ home.
But Loknath went on making threats and threats of harm against her if she did not come back to him. When he came to her residence and threatened her relatives, Yashasvini and her mother felt that enough was enough. They hatched a plan and waited for the ideal time.
On Saturday morning, Loknath called Yashasvini, informing her of his visit. Around 10 a.m., he left his home in his SUV after informing his sister he was heading toward the city. Yashasvini and her mother prepared food laced with sleeping pills. Loknath, expecting a party, brought along beer bottles. After picking up Yashasvini and the food, he drove to an isolated spot in BGS Layout.
Inside the vehicle, they drank beer. As he became intoxicated, Yashasvini fed him the sedative-laced food and shared her location with her mother. As the drugs took effect, Hema arrived with a knife and stabbed him twice in the neck. A panicked Loknath attempted to escape, running 150 meters before collapsing inside a parked autorickshaw. Passersby who heard his screams found him dead and alerted the police.
