Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that separatism in Jammu and Kashmir is now a thing of the past, citing the withdrawal of two Hurriyat-linked organisations from separatist activities. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for this development and called it a significant step towards national unity.
Speaking on the matter, Amit Shah stated that the Modi government’s policies have effectively dismantled separatism in J&K. He emphasized that two groups associated with the Hurriyat Conference—J&K People’s Movement and the Democratic Political Movement—have officially severed ties with separatist ideology. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he remarked, “Separatism has become history in Kashmir. The unifying policies of the Modi government have tossed separatism out of J&K.”

Shah urged other groups to renounce separatism and align with the vision of a unified India, adding that this shift reflects PM Modi’s vision of a peaceful and developed nation. “I welcome this step towards strengthening Bharat’s unity and urge all such groups to come forward and shed separatism once and for all. It is a big victory for PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision of building a developed, peaceful, and unified Bharat,” he posted.
Meanwhile, the central government, on March 11, imposed a five-year ban on Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s Awami Action Committee (AAC) and Jammu and Kashmir Ittehadul Muslimeen (JKIM), led by Masroor Abbas Ansari, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) stated that these organizations have been involved in activities detrimental to India’s integrity, sovereignty, and security.
The MHA, in its notification, pointed out that AAC members have been involved in patronizing terror activities and anti-India propaganda to instill secessionism in J&K. The ministry also implicated AAC leaders and members in raising funds to espouse separatist and terror activities in the region. Despite such a recent turn of events, the J&K situation is still changing, with the government standing firm against separatist forces.
