On Wednesday, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasised the importance of unity among Hindus and called for treating all Hindus as one, irrespective of caste, region, or language. He made these remarks while speaking at the Hindu Ekta Sammelan, organised as part of the Cherukolpuzha Hindu religious meet.
RSS Chief Bhagwat stated that a united society flourishes, while a divided one weakens over time. He described Hinduism as a way of life, where people use knowledge to enhance learning, wealth for charity, and power to support the weak.
“The Hindu society can flourish only when it stands united. Hindu dharma does not support discrimination. There is no superiority or inferiority among people, no caste-based divisions, and no untouchability,” Bhagwat said.

He urged people to respect one another and highlighted that Hindu unity would not only benefit the country but also the world. Bhagwat suggested that self-awareness, equal treatment of all, and environmental conservation were key steps toward unity.
Speaking on environmental protection, Bhagwat said that policy changes take time, but individuals can take small steps like conserving water, planting trees, and eliminating plastic use.
“Every Hindu has a duty to protect the environment. We must take responsibility for our surroundings,” he stressed.
The RSS chief also touched upon social issues, particularly drug addiction among youth. He claimed that the lack of moral values at home was a major reason for this issue.
“Why are our youth falling into drug addiction? It is because there are no ‘sanskaras’ (values) at home. Family discussions about traditions and values can help prevent such problems,” he said.

Bhagwat encouraged Hindu families to engage in self-introspection at least once a week to assess their spiritual and moral values.
“Open discussions about our traditions within families will strengthen our community,” he added.
He also highlighted that Hinduism promotes equality, even when the world is witnessing conflicts in the name of religion.
“Hindu religion is based on four principles—truth, kindness, hygiene, and meditation. Caste-based hierarchy is not part of its core values and should be discarded,” he said.
The RSS Chief urged that Hindus must wear traditional clothing when they attend public events, and should not speak English, as quoted by The Print.
Bhagwat added that Dharma is the soul of Hinduism and everyone should practice it individually.
He said, “We should also ponder if the language we speak, the places we travel to, and our clothes are aligned with tradition. We should travel to places in our own localities and visit our own brothers who need help. We should not speak English and we should eat our local cuisine. While attending events, we should stick to our own traditional clothing styles, not western outfits.”
He further advised, “Dharma should be practiced in adherence to rules. And if any practices are outside the ambit of rules, they should be abolished. As Guru (Sree Narayan Guru) says, casteism and untouchability are not Dharma. They should be abolished.”
As part of the event, Bhagwat also released a book titled “Sreenarayana Smrithiyude Vedajyothi” by handing a copy to Chidanantha Bharati Swami. The book’s author, Acharya Anand Raj, provided an introduction to its contents.
The session was presided over by Hindu Maha Mandalam president P.S. Nair, while vice-president K. Haridas welcomed the gathering. The eight-day-long Cherukolpuzha Hindu religious convention will conclude on February 9, with West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose inaugurating the valedictory session.
Bhagwat is on a two-day visit to Kerala and will leave the state on February 6. He had earlier spent six days in Kerala in January as part of organisational activities.
“The whole world is waiting for Hindustan to show the way,” Bhagwat remarked, urging Hindus to act as one and work towards a united society.
