PM Modi France Visit: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for investment in skilling and re-skilling people for an Artificial Intelligence-driven future. He was co-chairing the AI Action Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged investment in training and retraining people for an AI-driven future. Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, he said, “Loss of jobs is AI’s most feared disruption, but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology, only its nature changes. We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future.”
At the summit, Modi emphasised the need for open-source AI systems to build trust and transparency. He stressed the importance of unbiased data centres, cybersecurity, and tackling issues like disinformation and deepfakes. He said, “We must develop open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency. We must build quality data centres free from biases, democratize technology and create people-centred applications. We must address concerns related to cyber security, disinformation and deepfakes.”

PM Modi pointed out that AI is evolving rapidly and spreading globally. He called for international cooperation to set governance standards that uphold shared values, manage risks, and build trust.
He further added, “We must also ensure that technology is rooted in local ecosystems for it to be effective and useful. Loss of jobs is AI’s most feared disruption, but history has shown that work does not disappear due to technology, only its nature changes. We need to invest in skilling and re-skilling our people for an AI-driven future.”
He added that governance should ensure AI benefits everyone, especially in developing countries that lack resources like power, talent, and data. Artificial Intelligence can improve healthcare, education, and agriculture, making progress toward sustainable development faster. To achieve this, he urged pooling global resources and talent, creating transparent AI systems, and ensuring fair data practices.
