The border force has initiated efforts to ascertain the identity and motive of the intruder. Vigilant BSF troops thwarted an infiltration attempt. A strong protest will be lodged with the Pakistan Rangers, the force stated.
This incident comes a day after the Indian Army engaged in retaliatory firing against Pakistani troops across the Line of Control (LoC). The exchange took place in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector around 11 AM.
Earlier on February 8, terrorists fired at an Indian patrol unit from a forested area across the LoC in the Keri sector of Rajouri, prompting an immediate response from Indian soldiers. Additionally, during the night between February 4 and 5, a landmine explosion in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district resulted in the neutralisation of terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the LoC.
Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a surge in terrorist activities between May and December last year, leading to intensified counteroffensive operations by security forces. During this period, more than 30 terrorists were eliminated before the onset of the region’s harsh winter. Security forces also suffered losses, recording 25 fatalities—19 in Jammu and six in Kashmir.
The BSF confirmed that its troops remained vigilant, ensuring border security against infiltration threats. The incident highlights the ongoing tensions along the IB and LoC, with security forces maintaining heightened alertness to thwart any cross-border threats.
