On the 1st of January, a devastating terrorist attack made the entire city of New York horrified. Late at night, a tragic mass shooting grabbed the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica, Queens and left more than 11 innocents seriously injured.
Although the New York Police Department (NYPD) has yet to release full details about the incident, initial reports have underlined some of the happenings of last night.
The club where the shooting took place lies at 91-12 144th Pl, Jamaica in New York. Many reporters and locals have highlighted a massive police presence at the nightclub.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), all victims are expected to survive, with none in critical condition, as reported by the New York Post. The injured individuals have been transported to Long Island Jewish Hospital and Cohen’s Children Medical Center for treatment.
The Amazura nightclub, known for hosting DJs and live performances, had reportedly organized a private event to honor a deceased gang member. AMNY News has reported that at the time of the incident, approximately 80 people were waiting outside the venue to enter.
Authorities are investigating a gray Infiniti Q50 sedan, suspected to be involved in the shooting. The car reportedly has a New Jersey license plate and distinctive red interiors. Local officials have yet to provide a motive for the shooting or any information about potential suspects.
According to the Gun Violence Archive data, there were at least 293 mass shootings in the United States by the month of July in 2024. Pertinently, as per the archive, an incident was recorded as an act of mass shooting when four or more people were shot, excluding the shooter.
The horrific incident closely followed another tragic event where a 42 year old man named Shamsud Din Jabbar plowed his truck into a crowd at Bourbon and Canal streets in New Orleans. The terrorist attack claimed the life of 10 and made more than 35 seriously injured. An ISIS flag was also recovered from the vehicle used in the Bourbon Street attack which brings the ISIS angle into the tragic incident.
