On 30th December, Lt Governor VK Saxena came down heavily on AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal for ‘insulting‘ the incumbent Delhi CM Atishi. Slamming Kejriwal for dubbing Atishi as ‘temporary Chief Minister’, LG Saxena said he was pained by the remark. He wrote to Atishi calling Kejriwal’s statement both a personal affront and an insult to the reputed constitutional offices.
Saxena criticised Kejriwal for the choice of words, which he stressed reduce the dignity of the office of the Chief Minister and dilute the democratic values.
In his letter, Saxena wrote, “I found this very objectionable, and I was hurt by it. It was not only an insult to you, but also to your appointee, the President of India and to me as her representative. As a Lieutenant Governor, I am concerned about this level of public discourse and at the same time, I am hurt by the conversation of presenting the full-time Chief Minister of my government as a temporary Chief Minister.”

The Lieutenant Governor further noted that Kejriwal’s comments had brought down the reputation of the stability and integrity of the Delhi government. It also reflected upon the democratic practices followed by the Delhi government. Saxena also pointed out the governance issues. He particularly highlighted the warnings given by the departments of the Delhi government about certain schemes promoted by Arvind Kejriwal, which are non-existent. He further warned that such misleading claims would undermine public trust in the governance system.
Moreover, Saxena said Kejriwal had also claimed that Atishi would be arrested in a fake case related to the transport department, which was denied by the department. He expressed disappointment over the negative portrayal of Atishi, saying such narratives could harm her role as a full-time Chief Minister.
Earlier in November, the Lieutenant Governor praised CM Atishi saying that she was “a thousand times better” than Arvind Kejriwal.
On 21 September, Atishi was sworn in as the Chief Minister. She was the youngest woman to take on this position as Kejriwal resigned after coming out on bail in the Delhi liquor policy scam. He had resigned after staying there for five months in Tihar Jail. When he was away, Atishi began appearing on behalf of AAP and presenting a lead role in stating party stances at press conferences.
