In a significant development ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to take legal action against those involved in registering women for the Mahila Samman Yojana. The directive came after Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit filed a complaint alleging that Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party’s workers were collecting personal information, including phone numbers and addresses, from women under the guise of a non-existent scheme.
Dikshit claimed that the AAP was duping women in Delhi by having them fill out forms for the Mahila Samman Yojana, which the party had falsely presented as already operational. Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leader & present Delhi Chief Minister Atishi had previously announced that the scheme was up and running in the city and that if the party won the upcoming elections, the monthly assistance would be increased to Rs. 2,100.
The LG’s office took swift action following the complaint. A letter from the Principal Secretary of Delhi’s LG instructed the Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner to investigate the issue. The letter emphasized the need to look into the collection of personal data by non-government individuals and to take legal action against anyone infringing on citizens’ privacy. A government department had also confirmed that no such scheme existed, calling the collection of personal details fraudulent.
Dikshit further demanded an investigation into the actions of AAP leaders Atishi and Kejriwal, accusing them of committing fraud and requesting that AAP workers be stopped from collecting personal information. In response, Kejriwal accused the BJP of trying to sabotage the Mahila Samman and Sanjeevani schemes, which he claimed were gaining significant public support.
The registration for the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana, promised by the Aam Aadmi Party to provide a monthly assistance of Rs 1,000 to eligible women above the age of 18, began on the 24th of December. As soon as the scheme stepped its foot, the lies of Aam Aadmi Party stood exposed by none other than the Women and Child Development Department of the Delhi Government. Two of the schemes of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani Yojana, over which Aam Aadmi Party was looking forward to content upcoming Delhi Elections in 2025 came under scrutiny after public notices from Delhi’s Women and Child Development (WCD) and Health departments flagged them as “non-existent.”
