The Indian Prime Minister will be honored with yet another highest national award of a country. The Commonwealth of Dominica is all set to confer with its highest national award, the Dominica Award of Honour, on PM Modi. The official statement noted that the award has been bestowed upon the Indian Prime Minister to recognise his contributions during the Covid-19 pandemic and his efforts to strengthen ties between India and Dominica.
The award will be presented by Dominica’s President, Sylvanie Burton, during the upcoming India-CARICOM Summit, which will take place from November 19 to November 21, 2024, in Georgetown, Guyana.
It is pertinent to note that in February 2021, India extended vital support to Dominica by providing 70,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine when the so-called world powers were stockpiling the vaccine supplies.
This assistance enabled Dominica not only to protect its own population but also to aid neighboring Caribbean nations. This act of solidarity highlighted India’s commitment to supporting its global allies, particularly during the health crisis.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India’s ongoing contributions to healthcare, education, and information technology in Dominica have been instrumental in deepening bilateral ties. The Dominica Award of Honour also acknowledges PM Modi’s dedication to global initiatives focused on climate resilience and sustainable development.
Dominica’s Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, expressed gratitude on behalf of his country, emphasizing PM Modi’s role as a reliable partner during critical times.
Roosevelt Skerrit said, “Prime Minister Modi has been a true partner to Dominica, particularly during our time of need amid a global health crisis. It is an honor to present him with Dominica’s highest national accolade.”
Upon accepting the award, PM Modi highlighted the importance of joint efforts to address global issues like climate change and geopolitical challenges, reaffirming India’s commitment to collaborating with Dominica and the Caribbean.
