Ninety five kilogram of drugs was seized in a raid conducted by a combined team of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police from adjoining Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
It’s learnt that a meth lab was being run by a Tihar jail warden, a Delhi-based businessman and a chemist who lived in Mumbai.
According to reports, following intelligence inputs about a clandestine laboratory producing synthetic drugs for both domestic use and export, a raid was conducted on October 25 and the huge cache of drugs was recovered.
It was also found out that members of ‘Cartel De Jalisco Nueva Generacion’, a Mexican drug cartel, were also involved in the production of drugs.
Approximately 95 kg of methamphetamine in solid and liquid forms was recovered along with various chemicals and advanced manufacturing machinery.
A Delhi-based businessman, found at the site, who was previously detained by the Department of Revenue Intelligence for a narcotics case, was arrested along with others. The man had established connections with the jail warden, who allegedly helped him in procuring the necessary chemicals and equipment for drug production.
The suspects, who were presented before a magistrate following their arrest, were remanded to three days in police custody for further probe in the matter.
Meanwhile, the government agencies are tracing the financial trails and assets acquired through this illegal operation.
The NCB said the increasing trend of establishing clandestine drug labs in industrial areas to avoid detection by local law enforcement, with similar labs dismantled earlier this year in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
Earlier, in another raid carried out in Ramesh Nagar, the city police discovered 204 kilograms of high-quality cocaine concealed in snack packets, valued at Rs 2,000 crore in the international market. The police said that it was a part of a larger shipment being prepared for distribution in Mumbai and other states.
