Assembly elections in Jharkhand will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, whereas Maharashtra is scheduled to vote on November 20, Election Commission announced on Tuesday.
Counting of votes for both the states will take place on November 23, it said.
In the last Jharkhand assembly elections held in 2019, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, which was a part of the then Congress- led United Progressive Alliance – won 47 out of total 82 seats of the state assembly.
In Maharashtra, the BJP and the undivided Shiv Sena dominated, winning 161 of 288 seats.
However, the alliance broke down over sharing of power and the Sena joined hands with the Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress to form the government.

That government, however, lasted only till 2023 and after a series of quick developments involving Sena’s Eknath Shinde, who is currently the Chief Minister, and the NCP, a new government was formed with BJP and Sena and NCP factions.
The BJP will look to finish 2024 on a high after a historic April-June general election that witnessed Narendra Modi becoming Prime Minister for the third consecutive term.
