Expressing strong displeasure over the on-going probe into the killing of terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Narnedra Modi government has said Canada cannot make unsubstantiated charges against India, and instead must take action against anti-India activities on its soil.
The Indian position on the matter was conveyed to high-ranking security officials and diplomats of the Canadian government as there are discrepancies between the allegations of Trudeau and the investigating agency, RCMP, which still is investigating the case of murder of Khalistan Tiger Force terrorist on June 18, 2023.
A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau met on the sidelines of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Laos, almost a year after the latter accused India of being involved in the death of a Canada-based Khalistani separatist.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC News) Trudeau described his meeting with Modi as a “brief exchange” when the two leaders met in Vientiane, Laos on Thursday last.
India, which had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020, has strongly rejected Trudeau’s allegations as “absurd” and “motivated”. It also asked Canada to stop give political directions to investigative agencies, the reports said.
The Government of India has made it clear to the Trudeau regime that it is a crime in law to give political directions to investigative agencies.
Meanwhile, India also issued a detailed statement on the so-called brief exchange by saying that no substantive discussion had taken place between the two leaders.
It was reported that Trudeau deliberately accosted Modi with an eye towards his appearance before the public inquiry into foreign interference in Federal Electoral Processes and Democratic Institutions on October 16.
The Modi government has maintained that since India has nothing to hide in the case and the Trudeau government must explain the reasons for defaming India.
The central government said that the only way for improving bilateral relations with India is that Canada takes verifiable action against anti-India Khalistani activities on its soil.
