The Modi 3.0 government, which completed its first 100 days in office on Tuesday, September 17, has reiterated that it would not shy away from fulfilling the promises it had made in the ‘Sankalp Patra’ right before the Lok Sabha elections.
Senior BJP leader and the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, promised on several occasions that ‘One Nation, One Election’, one of the main promises the BJP made, would be implemented only in the current tenure of the government even if there are voices against it amongst various political parties.
“We plan to implement one nation one poll within the tenure of this government,” Shah said during a press conference on the occasion.
Last month, Modi, while addressing the nation from the Red Fort, had urged political parties to come forward in support of simultaneous elections.
One Nation, One election aims to synchronize elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and other local bodies, thereby saving public funds, reducing election fatigue, and ensuring uninterrupted governance and development.
Presenting the report card of the government for the first 100 days, Shah said the Modi government has approved infrastructure projects worth 3 lakh crore, including linking 25,000 unconnected villages to road networks and building a mega port at Wadhawan in Maharashtra, during its first 100 days in office.
Besides infrastructure, the government also focused on agriculture by increasing the minimum support price (MSP) for Kharif crops, removing of minimum export price (MEP) on onions and basmati rice and hiking the duty on the import of crude palm, soybean and sunflower oils, he said.
On the occasion, the minister also indicated that the decision on the Census, which has been pending since 2021, would be announced soon.
The BJP-led NDA’s election manifesto – ‘Sankalp Patra’, had listed promises such as implementation of Uniform Civil Code and simultaneous elections across the country.
It also talked about establishing new IITs, IIMs and AIIMS.
The government, as it goes with full force in implementing development projects, is indicating that the promises made just before the polls would be fulfilled soon.
To accelerate development of robust infrastructure along the Indo-China, Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Myanmar borders, bringing Uniform Civil Code, One Nation, One Election and strengthening institutes like IITs, IIMs and AIIMS were some of the promises that they had made before the Lok Sabha elections.
